Changing the game
n The world has changed a lot in the
past year, and Yankee Dental Congress
is changing with it. For the next three
days (Jan. 28 to 30), you can participate
in Yankee Dental Congress® 2021 via
an entirely digital experience.
Yankee, which is New England’s
largest dental meeting, is presented
by the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS). At Yankee Virtual, continuing education and networking opportunities are available at attendees’
fingertips, at their own pace.
This year’s Yankee theme, “Changing the Game,” represents how attendees will be exposed to new ideas, products, technologies and connections to
help all dental professionals continue
to thrive in dentistry, according to the
organizers of the event.

Connect with exhibitors at Yankee Dental Congress

n You might not be able to physically
wander the aisles of the exhibit hall at
this year’s Yankee Dental Congress,
but that doesn’t mean you can’t still
get your fix of the newest and the best
products that dentistry has to offer.
In fact, the Yankee organizers claim
that exhibitors will be even more
accessible in this year’s virtual format
than they are at an in-person meeting.
“Instead of tracking down an
exhibitor or representative in a large
convention center, virtual conference
attendees will have many opportunities for direct communication, instant
messaging and impromptu conversations at the click of a button,” organizers said in a statement on the Yankee
website.
The virtual exhibit hall, which will
include show specials and live company representatives ready to greet
you, has official hours of noon to
5 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, Jan. 28,
and Friday, Jan. 29, and 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30. However,
the virtual exhibit hall will remain
active until March 1 for continued
connections.
This year, there are about 80 exhibitors participating in the virtual con-
gress. Some of the companies you can
meet with include 3M, Air Techiques,
Benco Dental, Biolase, Bisco, CareCredit, EdgeEndo, Henry Schein Dental, KaVo Kerr, Lighthouse 360, Planmeca, PureLife Dental, RGP, Shofu,
Simplifeye, Water Pik and Weave.

Dentalpalooza!

n Make sure to mark your calendars
for Friday, June 4. This year, for the
first time, Yankee Dental Congress
organizers are planning to host an
all-day Dentalpalooza.
Being held on the lawn outside the
Boston Convention and Exhibition
Center, the jam-packed outdoor event
promises to be filled with fun, learning and excitement.
Attendees will be able to engage
and network with close to 100 exhibitors while learning from some industry visionaries at top-notch continuing education courses. Food trucks
will offer a variety of items to drink
and eat for lunch, and there will also
be games and chances to reconnect
with friends after long months apart.
The event will last from 11 a.m.
to 7 p.m. More information is coming soon, and registration will open

This summer, plan a trip to Boston for the first Dentalpalooza, to be held

OSAP has introduced the Safest
Dental Visit™ to highlight and support

The path to opening a dental
practice can feel overwhelming; it is
important to work with a team you

Before entering the design process, establish your goals and mission for your practice. Think about
your needs, including square footage,
potential growth and location (visibility, exterior design and accessibility,
and surrounding demographics). This
information is valuable for both your
Equipment Specialist and designer.
Enlist an expert design team to
maximize practice efficiency, functionality, safety and future profitability. Dental practices can be separated
into three zones: public (reception,
waiting, patient restroom and consult), clinical (treatment, sterilization
and lab) and private (staff spaces
and mechanicals). An ideal layout
refrains from mixing these zones
while supporting efficient circulation
for patients and staff.
Dental offices are centered around
infection control and safety through
sterilization, disinfectant procedures
and PPE. However, air purification is
becoming another level of protection
to consider.
While many offices have purchased
either consumer or professional-level
local air purifiers, these may not be

the best fit for the dental environment. Successful infection control
protocols require a layered approach;
there’s not one solution for all. The
EPA offers the following three-step
approach to controlling air pollutants
that dentists should consider:
• Source control: This is the most
effective as it stops pollutants at the
source. Minimize aerosol-generating
procedures or utilize high-volume
evacuation products such as the Isolite® for hands-free intraoral suction.
• Increase ventilation: Move pollutants out of the breathing zone with
enhanced HVAC systems. An HVAC

or deactivation technologies to capture pollutants or deactivate viruses,
bacteria and other particles to disrupt
the RNA/DNA (ultraviolet germicidal

particles (photocatalytic oxidation).
