tandlægefaglige nyheder
SCANDEFA Copenhagen 2012
Undersøgelse anerkender YouTube’s værdi for tandlæger
Study recognises the value of YouTube for dentists
betydning for både praktiserende
To assessorer med akademisk
baggrund evaluerede 60 videoer i
implantologi (17), forebyggende
tandteknik (13), almen tandteknik
Assessorerne sagde, at videoerne
var unøjagtige i den henseende.
Forskerne anbefalede, at flere
i øjeblikket kun få tandlægeskoler,
der driver deres egne YouTube-kanaler. Tandlægeskolen ved University
of Michigan søsatte for eksempel deres kanal for over tre år siden og
nåede for nylig op på over syv millioner seere.
Researchers investigating You
Tube have suggested that the potential of the online video-sharing platform and similar social media sites
as means of dental education is
highly underdeveloped. In a study,
they found that it could hold important implications for dental professionals, as well as dental education
staff.
Owing to an increasing integration of multimedia sources into professional and academic education,
Dr Michael Knösel, an orthodontic
specialist, and his team from the University of Göttingen, assessed the
value of videos on YouTube related to
dentistry. Using different search parameters, they discovered that there
is wide variety of material available
on YouTube with high educational
value.
Two assessors with an academic
background evaluated 60 videos in
the general category “All” and 60
videos in the “Education” category.
The results were first sorted “by relevance” and later by “most viewed”.
According to the researchers, the
informational value of videos in the
general category was perceived as
generally poor, whereas the most
viewed videos in the educational category had the highest educational
value. Videos in this category were
concerned with oral surgery and implantology (17), preventive dentistry
(13), general dentistry (16), as well as
aesthetic dentistry and orthodontics
(9). Five videos were considered to
be entertaining rather than educating.
Videos in the educational category were mostly uploaded by practitioners but also by academic institutions and dental companies. The majority of videos in the general category, which were aimed at
entertainment generally, were
mostly posted by patients and laypersons, but there was also a significant
percentage of videos with a commercial purpose and posted by dental
manufacturers.
The assessors said that videos in
the educational category depicted an
optimistic view on dentistry,
whereas those in the general category tended to be rather negative.
They found that between 68 and
93 per cent of the videos represented
dentistry accurately, and videos in
the general category were inaccurate
in this regard.
The researchers recommended
that more academic institutions acknowledge YouTube as an effective
supplementary medium for education. Currently, there are only a few
dental schools that run their own
YouTube channels. The University of
Michigan’s School of Dentistry, for example, initiated its channel more than
three years ago and recently surpassed seven million viewers.
“YouTube and similar social media
websites offer new educational possibilities for dentistry, but are currently
both underdeveloped and underestimated regarding their potential
value. Dentists should also recognise
the importance of such websites in relation to the formation of public opinion about their profession,” the researchers stated. “We would therefore like to encourage educators to
make greater use of this medium, to
work to improve the quality of videos,
and to demand that contents are updated on a regular basis.”
The study, published in the December 2011issue of the Journal of Dental
Education (J Dent Educ. 2011
Dec;75(12):1558-68), was conducted
between 6 and 8 October 2010. The researchers used four search items on
YouTube (“dentist”, “dentists”, “dentist’s”, and “dentistry”).

EU’s tandlæger bør ikke afkræves
musikafgift EU dentists should not
have to pay music fees
Ifølge en dom fra Den Europæiske
Unions Domstol (ECJ) i Luxembourg
bør tandlæger inden for EU bør ikke
afkræves royalties, hvis de spiller
musik i deres praksis. Appelretten i
stort antal mennesker”, udtaler
domstolen.
men ligefrem ubetydeligt”, forklarer
Dentists across the EU should not
have to pay royalties if they play music in their surgeries, the European
Court of Justice (ECJ) in Luxembourg
has ruled. The Court of Appeal in
Turin, Italy, had asked the ECJ to clarify the legal position after an Italian
collection agency had filed a lawsuit
against a dentist.
As reported by the BBC, dentists
should not have to pay royalties be-
cause they do not broadcast music
to the public, as their audience is
limited. According to the court, they
also do not make any profit from
broadcasting the music.
Under international agreements,
those who broadcast copyright-protected works to the public are liable
to pay royalties to the artists. However, “the public” refers to “an indeterminate number of potential listeners and a fairly large number of persons”, the court stated. Patients do
not go to surgeries to listen to music
but “with the sole objective of receiving treatment”, and the number of
people in a typical dental surgery “is
not large, indeed it is insignificant”,
the judges explained, according to
the BBC report.
The intellectual property case was
brought against Turin dentist Marco
Del Corso by Italy’s Società Consortile Fonografici, a collection agency
acting for musicians and producers.

Spørgeundersøgelse opdager dental midtvejskrise hos kvinder
Survey finds dental mid-life crisis in women
at denne demografiske gruppe
have perceived a traumatic dental
experience, including orofacial
trauma, in the past and to be more
prone to stress or mental disorders
like depression. The results are intended to help investigate the relationship between dental anxiety
and the perception of and coping
with pain, as well as to develop
strategies for managing the condition successfully.
Forty per cent of people in the developed world are estimated to have
some form of dental anxiety. Surveys
have shown that compared with the
general population, phobic patients
wait more than five times longer to
make a dental appointment, co-ordinator of the study and special needs
dentist Dr Avanti Karve said. She
added that the key strategy for managing dental phobia is to help the patient develop the skills for coping
with or overcoming the condition.
Part of the Westmead Centre for
Oral Health, a clinical school associated with University of Sydney’s Faculty of Dentistry, the Dental Phobia
Clinic was established in 2006 in order to treat patients with dental anxiety from the Sydney West Area Health
Service region. The anxiety study has
been running in association with clinical psychologists for five years.

COPPERIONCEMENT (KOBBERIONCEMENT)
Hoffmann’s READY2PROTECT
Copperioncement bliver for første
gang præsenteret i København.
Kobbers antimikrobielle effekt
har siden oldtiden været kendt for
sine helbredende egenskaber. Mod
slutningen af det 19. århundrede
brugte man generelt dentalcement
Fornylig
har kobbercement så gennemgået en
renæssance, da den antimikrobielle
effekt er gavnlig indenfor en lang
række af anvendelser, lige fra ART i
pædiatrisk tandpleje til cementering
af abutment implantologi.
værdige egenskaber for perfekt klassisk cement. Formlen er baseret på
Hoffmann’s cement. Hoffmann’s har
en lang tradition som producent og
bruger, når som helst det er muligt,
miljøvenlige materialer og processer. Virksomhedens grundlægger,
Dr. Otto Hoffmann, opfandt den
første zinkfosfat-cement. Denne
stedet for i år. Dens miljømæssige
kompatibilitet er uden sidestykke
med upåklagelige kliniske resultater i efterhånden 120 år.
I pædiatrisk tandpleje er ART et
af nøgleordene. Delvis fjernelse af
karies i symptomfrie mælke- eller
blivende tænder reducerer risikoen
for eksponering for pulpa.

Kobbers effektivitet i dentalcement afhænger af to vigtige faktorer:
Copperioncement forhindrer
kim-koncentration og aktiverer ganske blidt vævets heling. På grund af
det hvide kobbersalt finder ingen
misfarvning af tænderne sted. Copperioncement er tvært imod en
ugennemsigtig universal tandfarvet
cement.

G-ÆNIAL ANTERIOR & POSTERIOR: AN ALL-ROUND RESTORATIVE FOR EFFORTLESS INVISIBLE RESTORATIONS
Videnskabeligt set
betyder det, at forskellige refraktionsindekser medfører spredning
af farveinformationen inden i
kompositten, hvilket resulterer i
naturlig reflektionsevne og naturlig æstetik. Kort sagt: G-ænial er
lige så smuk indeni som udenpå.
which allow it to match every
restoration with nature.
G-ænial’s fleksible nuancekoncept gør tandlægen i stand til at
fremstille restaureringer fra æstetisk usynlige enkeltnuancer til
æstetiske mesterstykker i et flernuanceret build-up. G-ænial Anterior omfatter 22 nuancer i tre forskellige opaciteter og G-ænial po-
G-ænial is your material of
choice when it comes to key differentiators such as:
•Shade system
•Manipulation
•Viscosity
•Polishability
•Radiopacity
lettere. Teknologien High-Density
Radiopaque (HDR) Technology
øger røntgenkontrasten af både
G-ænial Anterior og Posterior væs-
ite that offers effortless manipulation. Consistency and working
times are accommodated to all
restorative classes.
G-ænial Anterior has the same
consistency as Gradia Direct Anterior, a material which has been
tested extensively over a period of
6 years and specifically lauded for
its superior consistency, setting it
apart from other restorative materials.
The working time is around four
minutes under ambient light to allow stress-free working when you
need to create multi-layer restorations.
god, at restaureringen æstetisk set
bliver usynlig. Dette muliggøres,
entligt uden at påvirke æstetikken.
sterior 6 nuancer i 2 opaciteter.
GC EUROPE, a leader in dental
materials technology introduces
G-ænial, an advanced material suitable for all restorative classes and
highly-aesthetic single shade or
multi-shade build-ups. G-ænial posterior and anterior restoratives have
been developed over a period of time
with GC’s extensive expertise and
knowledge of dental materials together with input from clinicians
who are loyal Gradia Direct users.
Years of experience and industry know-how went into creating
G-ænial to make it the perfect partner for a clinician who is only satisfied with the best restorations. Your
aesthetic skills are matched by
G-ænial’s superior characteristics
•Aesthetics
•Physical properties
•Colour stability
The chameleon effect achievable with one shade of G-ænial is so
good that the restoration becomes
aesthetically invisible. This, along
with the features listed above, is
made possible by G-ænial’s unique
internal composition. Thanks to diverse and structurally complex matrix, G-ænial mimics the reflectivity of a natural tooth. Scientifically,
this means that due to different refractive indices, colour information is scattered inside the composite, creating natural reflectivity
and therefore natural aesthetics. In
summary: G-ænial is as beautiful
on the inside as it is on the outside.
G-ænial is one of the rare composite materials that can be really
qualified as being user-friendly, not
only because of the shade system,
but because it is a unique compos-
G-ænial Posterior features a viscosity that is specially adapted to
posterior applications. In addition
it is easy to sculpt, thixotropic and
adapts well to the cavity walls
thanks to a more packable consistency. Another characteristic of
G-ænial that improves its handling
is its increased radiopacity which
allows for easy follow-up procedures. With High-Density Radiopaque (HDR) Technology the radiopacity of both G-ænial Anterior
and Posterior is significantly increased without compromising
aesthetics.
The G-ænial shading concept offers flexibility to the clinician to
create a restoration from aesthetically invisible single shade to aesthetic masterpieces in a multishade build-up. G-ænial Anterior
offers 22 shades in three different
opacities and G-ænial Posterior in
6 shades and 2 opacities. The standard shades, outside special
shades and inside special shades
all have a delicate balance between
hue, chroma, value and translucency

NYT LED-LYS FRA A DEC NEW A-DEC LED LIGHT
The new offering features multiple intensity levels, cure-safe mode,
low cost of ownership, and intuitive
ergonomics.
Det ny A dec LED-lys til dental
brug, som blev afsløret ved Chicago
Dental Society’s 2012 Midwinter
Meeting, er nu tilgængeligt for
læger verden over.
Adjustable intensity levels of
15,000 lux, 25,000 lux, and
30,000 lux at 5,000 K are able
to flood the oral cavity with a
consistently neutral white
light for true-to-life tones,
which help practitioners diagnose clearly. The light’s cure-
“A-dec’s LED, som er designet til
at give optimal visuel skarphed og
ergonomi i behandlingslokalet, er
en enestående løsning, der overgår
alle andre muligheder i branchen”,
siger Tom McClesky, produktchef
hos A dec.
ny standard for klinikbelysning.”
A-dec’s avancerede lysemitterende diode (LED)-teknologi er
blevet optisk bearbejdet specifikt
under behandlingen.
safe mode emits a brilliant yellow
light at 25,000 lux, enabling the dental team to work effectively without
curing photo-initiated resins. McCleskey also mentions the solution’s
ability to reduce eye fatigue because
of how the light’s “stadium effect”
mitigates shadows and maintains a
uniform light pattern. Plus, its unencumbered controls, unparalleled positionability, and fluid movement,
combine to create outstanding ergonomics.

Det ny produkt byder på
flere intensitetsniveauer, cure-safefunktion, lave omkostninger og intuitiv ergonomi.
De justerbare intensitetsniveauer på 15.000 lux, 25.000 lux og
30.000 lux ved 5.000 K kan bade
mundhulen i et konstant neutralt,
uden at lysaktiverede harpikser
uhindrede styring, uforlignelige
indstillelighed og flydende bevægelse tilsammen en enestående
ergonomi.
Denne seneste tilføjelse sætter
en høj standard for A dec dentalbelysning, en familie af belysningsløsninger, der også omfatter A dec’s
500® Halogen 3-Axis og A dec 300®
Halogen 2-Axis.
Unveiled at Chicago Dental Society’s 2012 Midwinter Meeting, the
new A-dec LED dental light is now

3SHAPE – PÅ VEJEN IMOD FULDDIGITAL TANDTEKNIK CLOSING-IN ON COMPLETE DIGITAL DENTISTRY
blive servicecentre for tandlæger. Som en
central del af denne strategi tilbyder
3Shape Dental System 2012 arbejdsgange,
AD
Tandlægen scanner patientens tænder i ro
Funktionen Digital
3Shape provides digital methods for improving efficiency throughout all phases of
dental treatment, starting from the intra-oral
impression scanned at the dentist’s clinic
and continuing all the way to manufacturing.
Its new Dental System 2012 contains many
features specifically designed to enable labs
to develop their business towards becoming
service centers for dentists. As a central part
of this strategy, 3Shape Dental System 2012
provides workflows that reach into all areas
of dentistry. It also offers a complete digital
impression solution for dental clinics that enables dentists to capture the intraoral situation directly, achieving huge benefits in relation to traditional analog impression taking.
3Shape TRIOS includes intraoral scanning, intelligent software, and communication with the lab. Unique features include
spray-free scanning, complete motion and positioning freedom while scanning, instant impression validation, and smart scan-edit
tools. The dentist or the clinic’s secretary creates the digital order using a form that is customized according to the specific lab’s requirements. The dentist easily scans the patient’s teeth, validates the digital impression,
and immediately sends the case to the lab
while the patient is still in the chair.
Labs using Dental System can receive
TRIOS digital impression scans or third party
intraoral scans (Sirona Cerec, iTero) from the
dentist’s clinic directly into their TRIOS Inbox and immediately start the design
process. With 3Shape’s new Model Builder,
labs can use TRIOS scans directly to design
lab models, including implant models, either
in-house or locally. The digital models are
fully prepared for optimized manufacturing
on 3-D printers or milling machines. Dental
System’s Digital Temporaries feature enables
labs to digitally design and produce Temporaries – directly from the pre-preparation
scan and without pouring a gypsum model.
Labs can prepare esthetic Virtual Diagnostic
Wax-ups to send to the clinic for dentist-patient previews before the patient’s teeth are
even prepared.
