More than 170 domestic and international dental companies have announced their participation this year. The organiser expects over 10,000 dental professionals to attend the show. Scandefa is one of the largest trade shows in the region for dental equipment and materials. The first show was held back in 1968 as a part of The Danish Dental Association's Annual Scientific Meeting and has grown ever since. According to figures by the organiser, a number of 11,349 visitors attended Scandefa in 2010–an increase of almost 10 per cent from 2009. In Copenhagen, dental professionals will be able to get hands-on the latest in dental products and technologies. Manufacturers have announced to showcase a wide variety of endosseous implants and implant suprastructures, for example, that are increasingly manufactured in industrial milling centres as well as in-house at dental laboratories. Companies specialised in this field are now even offering to design and manufacture complex peg or bridge-supported superstructures which is providing commissioning laboratories with more freedom and the possibility to invest more time and effort in the finishing process. The upcoming Scandefa will also be a comprehensive platform for dentists and dental technicians to find out all the latest developments in tooth retention and how to implement complex endodontic treatment systems into dental surgery. The long years of intense collaboration between a large number of endodontics specialists and the industry have resulted in improved instrument and new material that improved diagnosis and, above all, improved treatment of root canal lesions. Modern imaging techniques, for example, allow for a more precise visualisation of the root canal and thus enable both en- dometry up to the apex and also the exact determination of the file position during preparation. Another important trend is the increased use of mechanised root canal preparation. Computer-designed file geometries with optimisedconicities and cutting edges have particularly improve safety and efficiency. Advanced materials such as nickel-titanium or titaniumniobium alloys, have significantly increased the durability of rotating preparation and revision files that allows evenly conical preparation even in the case of severely curved root canals. High-performance, electronically controlled drive units with torque control are helping to eliminate fracturing when using mechanised files. The field of aesthetic dentistry has made significant progress due to the introduction of new technologies such as electronic colourimetric systems and digital meth- ods for producing highly accurate intraoral moulds. In particular, the diverse methods of CAD/CAM-supported design in dental restorations—especially with the use of zirconium high-strength ceramics— and layered or pressed ceramic veneers are now providing excellent solutions for patients that not only ask for highly functional but also aesthetic dental prosthetics. More information are available at www.scandefa.dk Photo: Andrey Kozachenko Draw inspiration from your visit Welcome message by the organiser of Scandefa 2011 n It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to Scandefa 2011, the leading dental fair in Scandinavia which is held for the 44th time this year. The fair runs concurrently with the Danish Dental Association’s seminars and is once again situated in Bella Center’s C-halls where approx. 200 exhibitors wait to welcome you. Again this year, the seminar part of the fair is presenting an ex- citing programme. Amongst others, Dr Frank Spear from the US has been invited to be the Keynote Speaker for a live session. There will also be a wide variety of other interesting sessions taking place during the three days of the fair. We hope that as a visitor you will draw inspiration from your visit at Scandefa 2011 and be able to generate new contacts and do profitable business. On behalf of Bella Center and all of the exhibitors at Scandefa 2011, we bid you a warm welcome and hope that you enjoy your visit at Scandefa 2011.[2] =>TDI0311_01-02_Title 2 business SCANDEFA Copenhagen 2011 SCANDINAVIAN DENTAL SPECIALISTS FORM GLOBAL ALLIANCE 3Shape, a Danish company specialised in the development of dental 3-D scanners and CAD/CAM software, has announced a global strategic alliance with Astra Tech, a Swedish company manufacturing and marketing dental implants. The enterprises intend to develop a new software interface enabling 3Shape scanners to communicate with Astra Tech software Atlantis VAD. Atlantis VAD is a patented process using 3-D scanning to generate an exact virtual image of the upper and lower implant-level models. Once the new software has been developed, the interface will allow 3Shape scanner users to transfer digital scan information of patient oral geometry to Astra Tech Atlantis design and manufacturing facilities worldwide. “The partnership with 3Shape is a strategic business opportunity, which will further strengthen Astra Tech’s position within the area of digital implant dentistry, contribute to a faster market penetration for Atlantis, and create added value for our customers and their patients,” says Peter Selley, CEO of the Astra Tech Group. President and CEO at 3Shape Flemming Thorup added that the collaboration will offer maximum flexibility to the company’s reselling partners and their dental lab customers using 3Shape scanner and software solutions. “We are very happy that the collaboration between Astra Tech and 3Shape will make it possible for many laboratories to benefit from the strength of our respective companies,” he stated. 3Shape runs offices in Denmark, the Ukraine, Poland, China and the USA. The company says its systems are created by more than 85 developers and applied in thousands of labs in more than 60 countries. 3SHAPE, DENMARK www.3shape.com Booth C4-012 AD ONE FILE ENDO WITH RECIPROC RECIPROC is probably the most significant new development since nickel-titanium instruments were first introduced to rotary preparation of root canals. The main difference to rotary NiTi systems with their elaborate instrument sequences is that RECIPROC completely prepares and shapes the root canal with only one single instrument. Developed by the VDW from Munich in Germany, the RECIPROC system is supposed to simplify the procedure of preparing root canals while ensuring maximum security during the process. The root canal preparation results conform to the highest quality demands in this area and made possible through the use of this new reciprocating movement coupled with the special design of the RECIPROC instrument itself, the company said. In its back-and-forth movement with varying angles of rotation, the instrument cuts during the longer forwards movement and discharges during the shorter backwards movement. These rotational angles have been programmed into the VDW.SILVER RECIPROC motor and prevent RECIPROC instruments from being used beyond their specific elastic limit. The risk of an instrument fracture can thus be minimised. One RECIPROC instrument replaces a number of hand- and rotary instruments and is therefore defined for use in one molar maximum. Instruments are ready to use, in sterile blister packaging to prevent the risk of cross-contamination is eliminated. The RECIPROC system has three available instrument sizes, the one that best fits is selected in accordance to clearly defined criteria. With each of the three sizes of instrument, an optimal canal form for all obturation methods can be attained. Also included in this system are customised paper points and gutta-percha points to simplify the procedures of drying and filling.
