A Public Health Conference for all healthcare providers was added this year. Some of the educational highlights for today include “Digital Implant Surgery: Guided Surgery: A Hands-On Workshop,” which is being presented by Pilseong Kim, DDS, MS, from 2 to 5 p.m. This comprehensive, clinically based class, part of the World Implant Expo, will cover clinical workflows with restorative and implant dentistry, focusing on where digital dentistry works, when it falls short and how to work around challenges. Participants will learn how to understand principles, theory and procedures of intraoral scanning and CBCT scanning for surgical case workup; the digital workflow of the dental office and how to incorporate it efficiently into the office; and handson implant placement with guided implant surgery systems. Another highlight today: Francisco Ramos-Gomez, DDS, MS, MPH, is presenting “Infant Oral Care and Minimally Invasive Dentistry” from 2 to 5 p.m. Early childhood caries is the most widespread chronic disease in children worldwide but is entirely preventable. There is a need to focus on minimally invasive prevention and emphasize primary prevention before caries occur. In this session, participants will learn the importance of infant oral care starting at birth, the use of fluoride, the age one visit, proper oral hygiene and appropriate nutrition. This half day seminar is part of the Pediatric Program. Also today, “Oral Appliance Therapy: Screening, Treatment Planning 3 and Side Effects” will be presented by Thomas M. Gotsis, DDS, from 10 a.m. to noon. This program is a crash course on oral appliance therapy. Participants will learn which patients should be treated and how they should be treated. Various sleep appliances will be explored and discussed. Attendees will also learn how to identify sleep disordered breathing patients, how to screen patients and refer for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea, treatment planning, types of oral devices, and success and side effects of oral appliance therapy treatment. This course is part of the Sleep Apnea Symposium. To learn more about these and other educational offerings here at GNYDM, check your meeting guide. Skin rejuvenation treatments are in high demand, and many are looking for options that naturally enhance, without injectables. According to Fotona, two treatments that fit patients’ needs are SmoothLase,™ a wrinkle reduction treatment for around the mouth, and LipLase,™ a gentle yet effective treatment in providing patients with fuller, enhanced lips. Enabled with unique Fotona pulse characteristics, both SmoothLase and LipLase use the photothermal capabilities of the LightWalker laser to convert and initiate the formation of new and more elastic collagen. After years of practicing restorative dentistry, Harvey Shiffman, DDS, said about the LightWalker: “I noticed that after delivering beautiful smile makeovers, my patients would look in the mirror and point to wrinkles and say, ‘I hate this.’ Fotona’s LightWalker has given me many options for facial rejuvenation, ‘turning back the clock,’ with both intra-oral and extra-oral options to help patients look better, feel better Here in New York To learn more about the Fotona LightWalker laser and the SmoothLase and LipLase, stop by the Fotona booth, No. 3230. and complete that cosmetic makeover.” How does SmoothLase work? The characteristics of the proprietary non-ablative “Smooth Mode” pulse delivers intense heat to the tissues, simultaneously shrinking and tightening existing collagen bundles while stimulating the creation of new collagen. A specialized handpiece delivers the unique Smooth Mode pulses to the intraoral mucosa. Treating the entirety of the oral cavity results in the tightening of the skin around the mouth and cheeks, leading to reduction in nasolabial folds, according to the company. With LipLase, the laser delivers targeted heat pulses into the lips to stimulate new collaged formation resulting in fuller, more defined and enhanced lips, the company asserts. “The LightWalker is great for facial rejuvenation, which has become a very popular procedure to look and feel younger without undergoing invasive surgical procedures,” Shiffman said. 5 The LightWalker. (Photo/Provided by Kettenbach Dental) 5 Innovations that deliver reliability An interview with Jens Kuhn, president of Kettenbach Dental n When asked what the future holds for Kettenbach Dental, Jens Kuhn, president of the company, offers a simple answer: “We definitely want to become the obvious choice for every dentist, every day.” Since its founding in 1944 and its subsequent invention of the first impression silicone, the company has built a reputation as an innovator of products of the highest possible quality. In an interview, Kuhn talks a bit more about the secrets to Kettenbach’s success. What is the primary goal with each of your product innovations? “The beauty of working in health care is that, by definition, what you do has relevance to people. Staying healthy is very important to all of us. So, our goal is to advance oral medicine every day. To accomplish this, we must listen carefully to dentists and translate their needs into superior product solutions. This means that Here in New York Visit Kettenbach Dental at booth No. 3725. To learn even more, visit www.kettenbach-dental.us. we must constantly explore and push the boundaries of what is technically possible. “We want to help dentists and their teams achieve top clinical and esthetic results over and over. This requires predictably high-quality products, technical support where needed and, as technology advances, strong involvement in continuing education. We are working hard to become the ultimate choice of every dentist, every day.” What can you tell us about the R&D behind Kettenbach products? “We develop and manufacture every product in our portfolio. Almost 20 percent of our team members work in research, development and quality management. Being a highly specialized manufacturer of dental consumables, we can only justify our existence by developing and manufacturing products that provide dentists with specific benefits. We live by the claim ‘simply intelligent’ by offering products that are intelligent solutions for dentists.” Which innovations have done the most to move dentistry forward? “Going back to 1955, when Kettenbach introduced the first siliconebased impression material to dentistry, it’s been our mission to only introduce products that are superior and provide dentists with at least one relevant user benefit. This is demonstrated with every product in our portfolio. “For example, Panasil, our PVS impression material, was the first product with a heat-sensitive polymerization process, which means it starts setting quickly when it’s exposed to mouth temperature. That is a big advantage, because dentists want a comfortable working time and a short setting time. “Another product line, Futar D, is the hardest silicone-based bite registration material on the market, which ultimately reduces chairside adjustment time. “Visalys Temp is the only temporary crown-and-bridge material that is free of BPA and its derivatives. Our latest innovation, Visalys CemCore, is a cement and core buildup material in one product, which simplifies the procedure by reducing the number of steps and products.” What are Kettenbach’s greatest strengths? “Our greatest strength is that we listen to dentists — our customers — and translate what we learn into products that are easy to use, reliable, and consistently achieve predictable results. Plus, we only manufacture chemically based consumables, so we stick to what we’re good at.”[11] => [12] => 12 exhibitors Greater New York Dental Meeting — Nov. 29, 2021 FIT SA receives high praise By Shofu Dental Staff n An objective clinical study conducted by the Dental Advisor with 30 clinical evaluators and 787 total uses showed that FIT SA, the bioactive selfadhesive flowable composite from Shofu Dental, received a 92 percent rating (4.5+). Where have you guys been? It feels amazing to return to the GNYDM! You haven’t seen us here in a while because we were, until recently, being represented by a dealer — even so, our products, including the AnyRidge® implant system, have been growing in the U.S. market at a tremendous rate. Why did MegaGen America decide to return as a direct subsidiary in America? We decided to come direct because we wanted to give doctors the best possible MegaGen experience. Having full control over our operations allows us to provide excellent service and offer great terms in ways a distributor can’t. Also, our presence supports our educational organization, MINEC America, and our education partners, AIE, WIIC, Brighter Way Institute, Catapult Education, Versah® and others. Education is an integral part of MegaGen, and all of the mentioned organizations help shape a diversified learning approach to implant dentistry. Why the slogan, ‘MegaGen Never Stops Innovating’? Our R&D department is constantly developing and incorporating new technologies to push the boundaries of implant dentistry. MegaGen was founded by clinicians to provide minimally invasive treatments to patients, and we continue to be driven by clinicians to improve user experience for doctors worldwide. What are some of MegaGen’s latest innovations? There are several innovations, but the most important is the added core sizes to the AnyRidge system. The extended fixture lineup gives doctors complete biologic versatility 5 (Illustration/Provided by MegaGen America) when dealing with different bone densities. A good analogy is that you can’t use a wood screw for every job in your house; a wood screw is optimal for wood, while a drywall screw is optimal for drywall. Prosthetically, doctors can still enjoy the benefits of a single platform. Out of all the implant systems on the market today, what makes AnyRidge unique? The AnyRidge is a biologically driven implant system designed to optimize stable hard and soft tissue. Here in New York To learn more about MegaGen America and all of its products, stop by the booth, No. 825. In addition to the benefits of the added core sizes mentioned earlier, we also have a new line of prosthetic options specifically for molars called the S2 Option. The S2 Option is designed to withstand the challenges associated with patients with parafunctional habits. Our patented XPEED® surface treatment, which gives AnyRidge its iconic blue color, is clinically proven to accelerate osseointegration and shorten loading times. Closing remarks? MegaGen America is growing rapidly, and we are here to stay! To any doctors reading this, please don’t hesitate to contact us for whatever you need — or just stop by and say howdy at the booth.
