Among the highlights are the final two sessions at the exhibit hall’s 425seat Live Dentistry arena: “Executing Accurate Aesthetic Dentistry” at 9:45 a.m., and “Guided Implant Surgery” at 2 p.m. Each demonstration is worth three C.E. credits, and neither requires a tuition fee. Also, on the exhibit floor, you’re invited to drop by the Social Media Café sponsored by Patterson Dental and Gentle Wave Procedure. Open from 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m., the Social Media Café has a primary focus of helping dental professionals jump-start their social media presence through advice from experts, information about new tools and content and TED Talks by popular influencers. The informal structure includes the opportunity to grab a cup of coffee or tea and easily interact with fellow professionals. The Social Media Café is in booth No. 5434. Everything winds down tonight with food, a cash bar, music and dancing at the Wednesday Night Happen- 3 ing, taking place from 6:30–9 p.m. And, as has long been the case with the GNYDM schedule, the end of the meeting coincides with the famous Rockefeller Center annual tree lighting ceremony on Rockefeller Plaza, between West 48th and 51st streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues. If you’re willing to brave the huge crowd and gridlocked streets, the event is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Keep in mind, though, the ceremony also airs live on NBC from 8-10 p.m., and the tree remains lit daily from 5:30–11:30 p.m. The tree lighting is a fitting symbolic end to an iconic meeting that in essence opened with the famed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. And that’s the same schedule next year, too, with the 2020 GNYDM set for Nov. 27–Dec. 2. AD[4] => 4 exhibitors Greater New York Dental Meeting — Dec. 4, 2019 The benefits of bonding meet the simplicity of traditional cementing By Dr. Joseph Kim n BISCO’s next-generation resin cement combines the benefits of bonding with the simplicity of a traditional cementing protocol. TheraCem is a dual-cured, calciumand fluoride-releasing, self-adhesive resin cement indicated for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and all types of posts. Delivering a strong bond to zirconia and most substrates, along with easy cleanup and high radiopacity, TheraCem offers clinicians reliable and durable cementation of indirect restorations, according to the company. With TheraCem, a clean, prepped dentin or enamel surface is all that is needed to achieve excellent bond strengths, with the added benefit of sustained calcium and fluoride release. TheraCem also forms a strong bond to most substrates, including zirconia restorations, without the need for separate chemical primers. TheraCem is easy to clean up with hand instruments and floss. For deeper subgingival margins, TheraCem is kind to the gingiva, although the margins should be thoroughly inspected to ensure complete removal of excess cement. Because of innovative chemistry, TheraCem achieves a high degree of chemical conversion, which ensures long-term durability without the need for refrigeration when it is not being used. For clinicians, this means that peace of mind can be nearby and ready to use in every operatory. All of these time-saving features translate to decreased chair time and frustration for both clinicians and patients. TheraCem is true simplicity and durability through cutting-edge chemistry.[5] => [6] => 6 exhibitors Greater New York Dental Meeting — Dec. 4, 2019 From scan to one-visit delivery: Moving at the speed of digital By Glidewell Dental Staff n Advancements in digital dental technology were the industry story for 2019 — and for good reason. Our goal as dentists should always be to optimize oral health for all our patients. Most patients want to save as many teeth as possible, but the expense of endodontic treatment and proper restorative care are beyond their ability to pay. This is true for adults and children alike, but these problems can be especially problematic in children and adolescents. Often these patients present with multiple large carious lesions. Some are non-restorable but others are. The best option for restoring a tooth with a large carious lesion is to maintain pulp vitality. Biodentine® is in a new class of materials that has high biocompatibility and bioactive properties, both important in saving pulp vitality while treating large carious lesions. Biodentine’s bioactivity allows it to assist the dentin-pulp complex to form a dentin bridge over areas where dental caries have breached the dentin and invaded the pulp. In our hospital dental department, we have replaced Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) products with Biodentine. We have done this because of Biodentine’s superior handling properties combined with outcomes similar or superior to MTA. Properties that are important to our hospital practice are set time, sealing capability, compressive strength and non-staining formula. Set times are important in the hospital practice as patients are often in the operating room or emergency department and require exceptional care in the shortest time possible. Biodentine has a significant shorter set time (10 to 12 mins) than MTA (175 mins), allowing you to accomplish your procedure in a shorter period of time. The unique setting reaction of Biodentine allows for more com- Case: An emergency department patient tripped and fell, injuring his front tooth. The mechanical strength of Biodentine at final set is more than two times greater than MTA, which allows us greater flexibility in applications. Finally, the opacifier used in the formulation of Biodentine does not contribute to staining as the formulation of MTA. Conclusion Septodont has brought to dentistry a high-tech dental material that is very biocompatible and can placed directly on pulp tissue without toxicity. Biodentine can be used whenever dentin is damaged. Its bioactivity allows Biodentine to interact with dental tissues to promote osteo and angiogenic activity, which promotes pulp and tissue healing. These properties make Biodentine ideal for use in restorative dentistry in deep caries excavation as a direct or indirect pulp capping material. The same properties make Biodentine useful in pediatric dentistry when doing primary tooth pulpotomies and permanent tooth apexification procedures. In endodontics, its bioactivity makes Biodentine a material of choice in repairing perforations, treating resorptions, as a retrograde filling material and in new endodontic regeneration procedures.[9] => [10] => 10 exhibitors Greater New York Dental Meeting — Dec. 4, 2019 ‘Tranzform’ the way you store your X-ray aprons with Flow’s new hanger n Unlike any other X-ray apron hanger, the new Tranzform hanger from Flow Dental enables you to store two aprons on a single hanger, and only Tranzform enables you to adjust the hanger to easily accommodate aprons that hang or aprons that drape.
