Time to go shopping
By Kristine Colker, today Staff
n At the Greater New York Dental
Meeting, it’s easy to find all the latest products and technology: It’s all
around you as soon as you walk into
the exhibit hall. Aisles upon aisles

Greatly reduce secondary decay with
Shofu’s bioactive Giomer restoratives
By Shofu Dental Staff
n Shofu Dental created the proprietary filler particle Giomer more than
20 years ago to offer products that
provide a bioactive and therapeutic
alternative to the inert restorative
materials available then — and now.
Secondary decay is the main factor
for the failure of restorations.1 Giomer
technology can release and recharge
six different beneficial ions. Together,
these ions have been clinically proven
to inhibit plaque, neutralize acid and
eliminate secondary decay, combining bioactive and therapeutic benefits
not available in competitive products.
An eight-year independent clinical study recorded a 100 percent
retention rate, no secondary caries,
no failures and no postoperative sensitivity. 2
As stated by Dr. Gordon Christensen, “Composites usually do not

have cariostatic properties, and
microbes are free to create new caries lesions in the wide-open margins
of restorations.”3
Giomer technology protects the
margin of the tooth with the release
and recharge of the healthful ions,
eliminating secondary decay.
Giomer technology restoratives
also offer picture-perfect esthetics,
according to the company. The nanohybrid-sized particles provide the
high level of polishability dentists
have come to expect in today’s premium restorative materials.
Shofu’s unique filler structure
gives Giomer restoratives the light
transmission and diffusion properties of dentin and enamel to blend
well with surrounding dentition without the complex layering techniques
required by many competitors.
Shofu Dental knows that the price
of bioactive and therapeutic Giomer
products has to be affordable for all
dentists, especially those who treat
the underserved. To that goal, Giomer
products are usually 30 percent less
expensive than many name-brand
competitors, the company asserts.
Shofu invites you to try its bioactive Giomer technology products to
see if they are a good fit for your
practice and patients. The complete
range of products is at Shofu’s booth,
No. 4207. While there, take advantage

DEXIS expands digital ecosystem
with three new innovations to connect
and streamline dental workflows
By DEXIS Staff
n At the start of 2024, DEXIS introduced its digital ecosystem, a suite
of tools and software designed to
connect and streamline the implant
workflow from diagnosis to delivery.
This fall, DEXIS has announced
new offerings across the ecosystem to
aid clinicians in important workflow
elements from visualizing progressive dental issues to designing chairside surgical guides.
“Our technology makes it easy to
organize information and execute
treatments, which is at the core of
what clinicians expect from us,” said
DEXIS President Robert Befidi.
“We are connecting and standardizing the implant workflow while
also constantly evaluating our efforts
to ensure we provide deeper patient
insights and flexible, intuitive solutions that reduce complexity. These
three launches are consistent with
our focus on continuous innovation
across the ecosystem to deliver diagnostic confidence, productivity, and
smart simplicity.”
A brand-new X-ray platform is
now available, designed specifically
for general practitioners looking to
expand their diagnostic capabilities
with 3-D imaging.
The ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH OP
3D EX captures consistently accurate
images through a simple, easy-tolearn workflow. The unit has a wide
range of field of view sizes to support
multiple clinical indications, including implant placement, endodontics,
periodontics and analysis for airway
and TMJ.
Early adopters of the OP 3D EX have
reported positive feedback.
“When choosing a CBCT, the key
factors for me were a large sensor,
predictable acquisition, stellar image
quality and intuitive software that
wouldn’t interrupt my workflow,” Dr.
Tyler Tolbert of Smile Now Dental
Group said. “Once the OP 3D EX got
here and we started taking some
scans, I thought to myself, ‘We really
made the right choice here!’”
In addition to new hardware, a
brand-new software release will provide advanced tools to plan and execute same-day, prosthetically driven
implants.
Serving as the unifying software

and central hub of the ecosystem,
DTX Studio Clinic stores and manages all patient data as well as helps
clinicians execute each step of the
implant process from diagnostics to
delivery.
The software’s new functionality allows practitioners to plan an
implant treatment and generate a
surgical guide chairside — all in less
than three minutes.
Clinicians can virtually extract
teeth, adjust photorealistic abutments and crowns, and create an
automated surgical guide that can be
sent to a lab or produced in-house for
same-day delivery.
“We were able to implement the
OP 3D EX quickly and start taking
scans largely due to the included DTX
Studio Clinic software,” Dr. Nicholas
Varney of Varney Dental said.
“Once we got going, we found
that so much of the work involved
in prepping a 3-D scan for confident
diagnosis was done by the software
automatically. DTX Studio Clinic has
improved how we work in all aspects
— communicating with patients,
implant planning and even treatment
team collaboration.”
In addition to 3D imaging enhancements, an intraoral scanning software update offers scan quality and
usability improvements as well as
clear visualizations of progressive
dental issues over time, through a
new tool called Oral Compare.
Additionally, the software’s new
integration with SmileFy allows for
the ability to simulate treatment
outcomes chairside, giving patients
further confidence in proposed treatment plans.
Clinicians also have the ability
to access their intraoral scan data
through a newly launched Cloud
solution — DEXIS IS Connect Cloud.
Datasets can easily be shared with
partners, and clinicians can access
their intraoral scan data anytime,
anywhere.

FDA clearance for root canal cleaning device
using saline water as main debridement medium
n Odne has announced that it has
received clearance from the U.S.
Food & Drug Administration for its
endodontic debridement device,
OdneClean. The FDA regulates such
devices as class II medical devices,
which are subject to premarket notification via the 510(k) pathway.
OdneClean offers a novel approach
to root canal disinfection, simplifying and accelerating the process. It
creates a hydro-dynamic cavitation
cloud inside the root canal using only
saline solution (sodium chloride) as
the main irrigation medium. The cavitation jet removes debris inside the
canals and tubules and increases the
effect of the final disinfection rinse
with NaOCl1.
OdneClean has the potential to
reduce the risk of adverse events
caused by harsh chemical disinfectants commonly used during root
canal disinfection. With its 190 µm
tip, the thinnest dental fluid-delivery
tip on the market, OdneClean supAD

ports minimally invasive root canal
treatments, enabling endodontists
and dentists to preserve as much
tooth structure as possible.
First clinical study results indicate
that OdneClean results in less postoperative pain compared to other
techniques.1
Odne’s chief operating officer and
co-founder, Mark Bispinghoff, said:
“With the clearance of OdneClean,
we now have U.S. market approval
for our complete product portfolio for
Root Canal Preservation (RPT). We
are very proud of our team for going
the extra mile and would like to thank
our partners for the efficient collaboration in performing the extensive
testing the FDA requires.”
In 2023, Odne received FDA clearance for OdneFill, its innovative root
canal obturation technique. OdneFill
is the first light-curing root canal
filler that instantly photo-cures upon
applying OdneCure, a high-precision
laser curing light.
The three Odne products are a
game-changing technology platform
for minimally invasive RPT, allowing
endodontists and dentists to accelerate treatment and increase patient
comfort.
Odne initiated a Priority Access
Program for innovative RPT at the
AAE annual meeting in Los Angeles
earlier this year. The PAP will form
the core of Odne’s scientific and clinical community, transforming endodontics.
One initiative of the PAP is to perform a clinical case registry, collecting further knowledge on the clinical
use of Odne’s devices for root canal
treatment.
Participating endodontists get the
privilege of being amongst the first
users of Odne’s devices and provide
valuable use-related and scientific
feedback.
