After a phased launch, 1,200 CDA members had already saved more than a half-million dollars, allowing them to provide more cost-efficient services to their patients. “Our entry into e-commerce may be unprecedented for a state dental association, but the move is timely as the $10 billion dental products industry undergoes a disruption in the way dentists purchase supplies for their practices,” Lee said. “We’re in a position to offer lower costs to our members, including those in rural areas who have adopted the marketplace as a trusted source for dental supply purchasing.” The TDSC Marketplace is now in a position to expand to other states, starting in the West and Northwest regions, giving dentists another option for purchasing some or all of their supplies. “There’s really no organization better positioned to offer this member service than a dental association whose best interests are with dentists and the patients they serve,” Lee said. Ultaire AKP was specifically designed to fill the gap between metal RPDs, which can be too rigid and stiff, and other polymer frame materials that can be too flexible. Here at the show, Solvay Dental 360 will have a special offer for dentists who visit its booth: Two Ultaire AKP partials for the price of one. To recieve the offer, dentists can stop by booth No. 590. “Dentists and patients alike are demanding better materials for RPDs, and Ultaire AKP delivers in a way that metal and other polymer options simply cannot,” says Shawn Shorrock, global director, Solvay Dental 360. “We saw an unmet need to replace metal in dental materials, similar to other markets we serve such as orthopedic and cardiovascular, and we worked closely with dentists to ensure Ultaire AKP best serves their needs and those of their patients.” As patients become more aware of the effects of metal — the potential allergies, toxicity and taste — they are also becoming more proactive, asking for partial dentures that feel natural, comfortable and are esthetically appealing. Ultaire AKP is an innovative aryl ketone polymer that provides a biocompatible, lightweight, metal-free, non-irritating and more esthetically pleasing alternative to traditional metal RPD frames, according to the company. Ultaire AKP is a rigid material — not flexible — suitable as a metal replacement and different than the other non-metal materials currently on the market, the company asserts. It is both strong enough and tough enough to be tooth-supported and help reduce bone loss, yet it is flexible enough to engage undercuts more deeply. Making multiple adjustments to a milled RPD can be time-consuming and frustrating for patients and dentists alike. Furthermore, months or even years of adjustments tend to wear down once-healthy teeth. Not At top, the Ultaire AKP. At left, the traditional metal partial dentures compared to the Ultaire AKP. (Photos/Provided by Solvay Dental 360) 5 3 only does Ultaire AKP provide an esthetically pleasing, biocompatible alternative to metal, once an RPD made out of Ultaire AKP is designed and fitted, adjustments should not be necessary — saving the dentist and patient valuable time. “Ultaire AKP is a paradigmshifting polymer — it really hits the sweet spot between metal and the flexible systems on the market today,” says Ryan Murphy, PhD, technology manager and polymer scientist at Solvay Dental 360. Here in Anaheim To learn more about Ultaire AKP, stop by the Solvay Dental 360 booth, No. 590. “It is a unique proprietary chemistry developed specifically for RPDs. With more than 35 brands in more than 1,500 formulations, Solvay has the broadest portfolio of highperformance health-care polymers in the world, the company asserts. By dipping and coating the brush head of any standard micro stick, create more than 400 placement sticks from one bottle. Once the liquid is dry, be confident in picking up and holding delicate veneers, crowns, internal implant screws, ortho brackets and even fourunit zirconia bridges, according to the company. HyperGrip will not leave a residue. Use the finished HyperGrip coated sticks with Veneer Styx Placement and positioning instruments for the best placement of veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays. TAUB is also proud to introduce a revolutionary dual-cure acrylic resin — STELLAR DC Acrylic. STELLAR DC Acrylic pattern resin is great for creating verification indexes, transfer and insertion guides for implants; pick-up impression copings; abutment seating jigs; connecting or fixing single implants parts for soldering and welding; and creating structure models of implant components. It can be light cured in 20 seconds or will cure on its own in 60 seconds. It provides the fastest production time of any pattern resin and acrylic, burns out completely, has no polymerization heat during cure and leaves no residue, according to the company. The material can be layered, reproduces detail accurately and grinds easily, the company asserts. A new technique allows it to repair cracked or damaged dentures in minutes. “STELLAR DC Acrylic is a great addition to our product line,” said Jordan Taub, executive vice president, TAUB Products. “Using our chemistry and technology, we can now offer the CDT and prosthodontist an acrylic that increases production by dramatically reducing production times, which helps the bottom line. STELLAR’s ondemand continuous flow of material allows quick and easy fabrication.” 5 HyperGrip Pickup Liquid, left, and STELLAR DC Acrylic. (Photos/Provided by TAUB Products) TAUB is known for three products that solve many issues when placing cement-retained implant restorations: GoCHx Gel Syringeable Chlorhexidine, Liquid Magic Resin Barrier abutment access plug and ZERO-G Bio-Implant Cement. According to Jordan Taub: “Zero-G provides permanent cementation of implant restorations and at the same time retrievability of those restorations. This is the best of both worlds for the doctors who want access to the abutment and also for the doctors who never want the restoration to come off. When we designed this cement, we understood incomplete cleanup of other cements, and peri-Implantitis was a cause of concern. Giving ZeroG the highest radiopacity over any other implant cement makes any excess cement extremely visible. The cleanup is unlike anything else on the market; any excess can be completely removed.” Here in Anaheim To learn more about HyperGrip Restoration Pickup Liquid, STELLAR DC Acrylic Pattern Resin or any of TAUB Products’ other offerings, stop by the booth, No. 1280. Liquid Magic Resin Barrier Material is used for implant and cosmetic dentistry. It can be used to fill abutment access holes, replacing Teflon tape and other products typically used. Liquid Magic is placed into the access hole, light cured and can be easily removed. Liquid Magic can be used for cement or screw-retained restorations. Glazer, DDS, FAGD n Is your office in compliance with the new CDC sterilization guidelines? Recently the CDC issued additional guidelines for infection control, which contains the most up-to-date infection prevention recommendations and expectations for safe care in the dental setting. Dental handpieces are specifically mentioned in the following quoted statement: “Dental handpieces and associated attachments, including low-speed motors and reusable prophylaxis angles, should always be heat sterilized between patients and not high level or surface disinfected. Although these devices are considered semicritical, studies have shown that their internal surfaces can become contaminated with patient materials during use. If these devices are not properly cleaned and heat sterilized, the next patient may be exposed to potentially infectious materials.”1 In my humble opinion, it implies that any item that can be removed from the air line should be heat steriAD 5 (Photo/Provided by Medidenta) lized. This includes hygiene handpieces, low-speed motors and any quick disconnects that are being used in your dental practice. Several state dental boards are making this a mandatory procedure — which it should be, to not only protect our patients but also ourselves and our staff. Fortunately, Medidenta is trying to do its best to help us out with this particular situation, and Medidenta’s CDC bundle does just that. When you buy the Meditorque Elite three-piece kit, which consists of an Elite 25k low-speed motor, an Elite latch contra angle and an Elite nose cone attachment, you then get for free — yes, free — your choice of one Prophy Pro Hygiene handpiece or one Atom highspeed handpiece. It is Medidenta’s way of helping us out so that our dental practices will comply with these new guidelines. You probably have seen Medidenta’s CDC bundle advertisements. Because the CDC guidelines specifically call out slow-speed motors, this three-piece kit allows you to have a slow-speed motor with attachments and also receive a hygiene handpiece for free. Or, of course, you can get the free Atom high-speed handpiece, which I personally think is the bomb! Reference 1. This independent study by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, found that buffering 1 percent lidocaine with epinephrine 1:100,000 with the Anutra Local Anesthetic Delivery System® “reduces the pain on injection with a maxillary field block and results in similar lengths of pulpal anesthesia tested with a cold stimulus” as compared to the traditionally used 2 percent lidocaine with epinephrine 1:100,000. As a result of the study showing the benefits of the lower concentration of lidocaine, Anutra Medical is now adding 1 percent lidocaine with epinephrine, 1:100,000 as one of its regular product offerings. In other studies conducted in April 2017, utilizing the Anutra Local Anesthetic Delivery System, The School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, found that, “Mean blood level differences of lidocaine for each patient were significantly lower after nerve block with the buffered drug compared with the nonbuffered agent.” Anutra Medical is excited to introduce 1 percent lidocaine 1:100,000 into the dental market in a more accessible format than it has been in the past. This has been especially true when it comes to bulk fill composites, which brought the promise of larger increment sizes but required specialized equipment or were otherwise difficult to handle. Now, clinicians can have a composite that easily adapts to the tooth and can be used in a true bulk fill technique. REVEAL® HD Bulk is BISCO’s new bulk fill light-activated restorative composite, optimized for simpler and faster posterior restorations. REVEAL HD Bulk combines appropriate handling, depth of cure and polishability, allowing clinicians to provide patients with functional and esthetic composites while saving valuable chair time. REVEAL HD Bulk allows for layering increments up to 5 mm because of its predictable depth of cure. This feature is accompanied by low volumetric shrinkage, high flexural strength and excellent radiopacity, resulting in long-lasting, durable restorations. While REVEAL HD Bulk is indicated for all direct and indirect restorations, clinicians will appreciate the significant time savings that bulk filling provides, especially in posterior teeth. Like other restorative composites, it is important to maintain adequate isolation to prevent contamination of the tooth from saliva and blood. When indicated, use of a sectional matrix system with significant separating force will ensure excellent adaptation to the proximal margins, as well as minimize interproximal food impaction. After excellent isolation has been achieved, a universal bonding agent, such as ALL BOND UNIVERSAL,® is applied to all prepared surfaces according to manufacturer instructions. When possible, it is ideal to selectively etch the enamel surfaces where the composite in intended prior to application of the bonding agent, resulting in minimal long-term mar- 5 (Photo/Provided by BISCO ginal leakage and dentinal sensitivity issues. Depending on operator preference, a flowable composite resin may be used in the deepest and least accessible areas of the preparation, including undercuts and the cavosurface margins of proximal boxes. The appropriate shade of REVEAL HD Bulk can be placed in a single increment for most Class 1, 2 and 3 restorations. For preparations that include areas that are deeper than 5 mm, it is advisable to build the restoration in appropriately sized increments. Keep in mind that because of its unique chemistry, care should be taken to avoid unnecessary exposure to light, including from ambient and overhead sources, in order to avoid Here in Anaheim Stop by the BISCO booth, No. 400, to learn more or visit reveal.bisco.com or call (800) 247-3368. premature hardening of the material. Finally, the restoration can be finished with fine diamonds and finishing carbides, followed by finishing points. It is worth noting that since REVEAL HD Bulk’s viscosity has been tuned for bulk fill applications, it is preferable to limit occlusal carving and shaping to primary anatomy prior to curing. After curing, greater detail may be added with finishing burs, as needed. Alternatively, when darker or opaceous restorative composite shades are required, REVEAL HD Bulk can by placed and cured short of the occlusal cavosurface margins. The final layer can be a traditional restorative composite in an ideal shade and opacity. Because REVEAL HD Bulk is universally compatible, it will serve as an excellent base under all light-activated restorative composites. REVEAL HD Bulk has been specifically designed to address the needs of clinicians who require the speed of a bulk fill restorative composite without sacrificing strength and ignoring esthetics. It is currently available in the most commonly used shades, from A3 to B1, in both syringe and unit dose form.[31] => [32] => 32 exhibitors CDA Presents — May 17, 2018 Introducing DEXIS FS Ergo by KaVo By KaVo Kerr Staff n KaVo Kerr, an organization composed of two global leaders in dentistry, is pleased to unveil the expansion of its growing portfolio of imaging solutions with the new DEXIS FS Ergo by KaVo.
