n The Academy of General Dentistry
is known for education tailored to your
needs, which is good because those
gathered here at the Hyatt Regency in
New Orleans — site of AGD2018 — have
come to learn.
Educational offerings include a
wide range of courses, learning labs,
poster presentations, “The 360 Experience,” a “Wine” down with the experts
and much more. Presenters include
some of dentistry’s most notable
speakers.
During his keynote address on
Thursday morning, Dennis P. Tarnow, DDS, presented “Where we were,
where we are, where we are going …
how exciting!” It was an inspiring talk

Attend the Convocation Ceremony and Celebration

n The AGD Convocation Celebration
will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday
at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans.
Everyone is invited to honor the
accomplishments of AGD’s 2018 fellows, masters and lifelong learning
and service recognition (LLSR) award
recipients. Seating is available on a
first-come, first-served basis. Doors
open for guest seating at 2:15 p.m.
This year, the AGD will give the
fellowship award to 272 dentists. The
fellowship award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest
quality of dental care by remaining
current in their profession. To receive
this honor, dentists must complete
500 hours of continuing dental edu-
cation, pass a comprehensive exam
and fulfill three years of continuous
membership in the AGD.
An additional 69 dentists will
receive AGD’s mastership award. To
receive this honor, dentists must earn
their fellowship award and complete
an additional 1,100 hours of continuing dental education. Dentists who
have earned fellowship or mastership
from AGD make up a distinct group —
they represent less than 1 percent of
all general dentists practicing in the
United States and Canada.
Finally, 32 dentists will receive
LLSR award, which is formal recognition for AGD masters in the areas of
continuing education, dental-related

After this session got out, Richard
Knowlton, DMD, MAGD, of Elizabethtown, Pa., and Ryan Buehner, DMD, of
Hummelstown, Pa., paused to say how
much they enjoyed the presentation.
They said they come to the AGD meeting each year because the smaller,
less-hectic nature of the event is more
conducive to learning.

Dentists, Physicians and Diabetes Educators.”
Panelists Jerry Brown, DMD, CDE; Wanda C. Gonsalves, MD; and Joanne
Rinker, MS, RD, CDE, will share their work on interprofessional management of diabetes.
The panel, which is free, will identify strategies to improve communication and collaboration when managing the health care of those living with
diabetes.
