Mr Saad, what is the big-picture
strategy for the Middle East and
North African region?
The Straumann Group is synonymous with training and education in
the dental industry worldwide and in
this particular region, and our entire
marketing strategy is focused on this
important factor. While implementing the restrictions caused by the
pandemic, thanks to new media, we
were able to continue supporting and
educating our customers scientifically by means off a good number of
webinars in order to somewhat compensate for the physical courses that
were cancelled or postponed at the
height of the pandemic.

We will continue offering webinars, while at the same time, we will
intensify our presentation of physical
courses including hands-on ones.
We believe that hybrid courses will be
wanted more and more in the future
because this concept provides more
flexibility to dental professionals.
However, we believe that, in some
regions, such as the Middle East,
physical courses cannot be completely
replaced with online education.

QUALITY – MADE IN GERMANY
The scientific programme will cover the latest
advances and research in various specialities of
dentistry, presented by more than 90 prominent
speakers from around the globe. “In 2022, as always, we have endeavoured to cover the mainstream trending topics of the year in all the related
facets of dental oral care, including surgery, restorations, dental hygiene and dental assistance, and
we certainly hope to keep all participants busy, having allocated 6–8 conference halls for the transfer
of world-class dental education,” said AEEDC Dubai
Scientific Chairman Dr Nasser al-Malik.
The organisers are pleased to be conducting
the 13th edition of the AEEDC Student Competition,
which provides a unique opportunity for all dental
students to participate through their universities.
Competing students will be challenged to engage
with questions in various subject fields in dental
medicine, including infection control, four-handed
dentistry, implantology and oral surgery. In addition, AEEDC 2022 will feature a poster presentation. Participants in the competition will have the
opportunity to present their posters in a digital format on TV screens.

business in more markets, benefiting from the
experience we have gained in the markets that
already promote ClearCorrect aligners. It is important for us to spread the message that the
Straumann Group is not just bringing another
aligner into the market but producing an aligner
made in a superior material and thereby enabling the patient to benefit from a reduced treatment time and a long-lasting result. We want dentists and patients to place the same trust in our
aligners as they do in our dental implants. The
Straumann Group does not plan for short-lived
success but plans long-term business strategy.
We have been active in this region for more than
20 years. We have seen many companies come
and go and have taken note of their marketing
and sales strategies, learning that shortcuts are
never the solution for a lasting business relationship.
This year, we also launched the TLX implant
in countries where registration has been completed. The TLX is a tissue-level implant which is
not only ideal for immediate dental implant treatment but is also an excellent solution for all other
indications to suit the dentist’s preferred treatment protocol including conventional placement
and loading. Straumann is the world’s only expert in tissue-level implants and the TLX is the
best the industry can offer today.
In addition, we launched NUVO dental implants to cover further sectors of the dental implant market and to give more dentists access to
the Straumann Group’s dental implant offerings.

What are the Straumann Group’s future plans
for developing the region further?
I repeat my answer to the first question.
There is no need to reinvent the wheel. The main
motor of the Straumann Group’s marketing
strategy is continuous education and training.
Practising dental professionals need to be updated, and newcomers need to be trained on a
regular basis. This concept has proved itself in
the last 20 years, and it will be continued and
The nine exhibition halls and 18 national
pavilions of the AEEDC Dubai Exhibition are
expected to accommodate 3,000 exhibitors, and
their exhibitions will provide a platform for engaging customers, demonstrating products, driving
brand awareness, conducting face-to-face business and making sales. Dr Abdul Salam al-Madani,
executive chairman of AEEDC Dubai and of
Global Scientific Dental Alliance, emphasised:
“We have over 4,000 international brands […] and
155 countries participating this year, and it truly
amazes me how the event continues to grow and
develop every year.”
Dr Tariq Khoory, AEEDC Dubai honorary chairman, commented: “Welcome to the 26th annual
edition of the International Dental Conference
and Arab Dental Exhibition—AEEDC Dubai. We are
extremely excited to be gathering again this year.”
He continued: “AEEDC Dubai continues to record
remarkable growth regarding the number of dental
experts gathering from around the world to share
their expertise with one another. It is essential for
everyone to maximise their knowledge and business growth potential. It is even more of a privilege
that this year’s exhibition falls within the tenure
of Dubai Expo 2020, which will mean even wider
exposure and the opportunity to gain unique insights. That is why we urge you to take full ad

AEEDC Dubai and Expo 2020 simultaneously.”

adapted as we move ahead in the future. We
hope that travelling will become easier again
so that dentists have the opportunity to attend
courses at our factories—at Medentika in Calw in
Germany, where a new training centre has been
inaugurated inside the high-tech factory, or at
our factory and training centre at Anthogyr in
Sallanches in France, or at Instituto Latino
Americano de Pesquisa e Ensino Odontológico,
our partner university in Curitiba in Brazil,
where the Neodent factory is located.
How do you evaluate the current sales climate
in the region?
We have had an exceptional 2021, with doubledigit sales growth in most countries, which
has been quite challenging for our production.
We believe that this positive trend will continue
in 2022, as the pandemic is better under control,
although new virus strains keep emerging.
I believe that humanity is learning to deal with
the virus as it has done with other viruses for
millions of years. In addition, more people have
been vaccinated and are getting their booster
shots, and the mortality rate is steadily decreasing. In the end, COVID-19 will be with us for quite
a while, and we have to learn to live and deal
with it.
What are the Straumann Group’s priorities for
the upcoming year for the region?
The Straumann Group’s aim is to keep this
region as a priority in its decisions. We have
plans in place for training and education but
these plans depend on the overall pandemic situation. In general, we were able to hold more
courses and congresses in 2021 than in 2020,
but again, not everything that was planned for
2021 has been implemented owing to the pandemic and the different national restrictions in
individual countries. We are optimistic that we
will increase our activities in 2022 compared
with 2021, and here I wish I had a crystal ball
to see into the future. 7

UAE as a whole. Its innovative outlook on science and technology in
dentistry has helped pave the way
for improved methods of diagnosis
and treatment. We’re honoured to
have it continue this success with us
on a larger platform and we all look
forward to its central presence this
year.”
“Italy has long set an excellent
example of dental innovations and
exhibiting breakthrough technology for
the betterment of dentists and patients
alike,” said Dr Tariq al-Khoury, the
honorary chairman of AEEDC Dubai.
“Being guests of honour at AEEDC
is a source of great satisfaction for
us,” said Gianfranco Berrutti, president of UNIDI.
He continued: “Italy, UNIDI (the
association that I lead) and Expodental Meeting (the trade fair we
organise) are working hard so that
together we can overcome the most
serious world crisis of this century.
Being here again in Dubai represents an important restart for us,
an alliance with a country and a
trade fair that are our friends
and, together with us, are starting
again.”
“We are thrilled to have it as the
Guest of Honour this year, for we
know that it will lead the drive in
sharing brilliant scientific data and
innovation,” he added.
The Italian Dental Industry Association (UNIDI), which gathers together the best Italian manufacturers
of equipment and consumables for
dentists and dental technicians,
has actively contributed to the
growth of the Italian dental industry
for over 50 years. UNIDI, which promotes “made in Italy” products, will
be a significant presence during
AEEDC Dubai 2022, representing
more than 100 Italian companies
that provide products that are compliant with the requirements laid out
by the European Union.
Italians have a long history of exceptional dental hygiene dating back
to the Romans, who had very little
access to raw sugar and maintained
a well-balanced and healthy diet that
included mostly fruits and vegetables. It continues to be obvious today
that Italy shows evidence of good
dental hygiene and that this has
transcended into offering valuable
scientific information and innovative technology to the world.
Apart from UNIDI, more than
50 companies will also be exhibiting
in the Italian Pavilion, and support will
be given by the Italian Trade Agency
and the Italian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and International Cooperation. Key supporters for AEEDC
Dubai 2022 also include the Dubai
Health Authority, Global Scientific
Dental Alliance, Arab Dental Federation and the Executive Board of the
Health Ministers Council for Gulf
Cooperation Council States. 7

interview
SCANTIST 3D—discover the first 3D scan spray that evaporates
automatically after 20 minutes
An interview with Dr Sebastian Gell, co-owner of Scanningspray, the company that developed SCANTIST 3D
n When using even the most modern
extra-oral scanners, it is usually
necessary to use matting sprays to
achieve great accuracy in digital
models. With the aim of improving
scan quality, a German company
has developed SCANTIST 3D, a new
3D scan spray that was specifically
developed for extra-oral CAD/CAM
applications in dentistry. In this interview, Dr Sebastian Gell explains the
main features and advantages of the
spray, which allows, for example, accurate scans of transparent objects.
Dr Gell, could you please tell us more
about the need for digitisation in
dental laboratories?
Nowadays, the number of dental
restorations such as prostheses produced by conventional means is continuously decreasing. The desire for
restorations made of high-performance
ceramics, which increases aesthetic
demands and high-precision requirements, has led to the development
of digital manufacturing processes
using computer-aided design (CAD)
and computer-aided manufacturing
(CAM). Digitisation has therefore become an essential process in the fabrication of dental restorations in
modern dental laboratories.
The surface of the scan object is
digitised with the help of a 3D scanner, and a 3D model is created from
the data obtained. The digital model
can then be compared with actual
parameters and, in the event of deviations, changes can be made to the
physical model. In the additive manufacturing process, digital models
also serve as input data for a 3D print.
SCANTIST 3D VANISHING directly,
on the spot, without taking any
costly precautions to avoid pigmentcontamination. Overall, SCANTIST 3D
eliminates the fundamental appli
cation problems of conventional
3D scan sprays and thus greatly increases efficiency and productivity
within the digitising process.
In order to ensure exact 3D scan
results, it is often necessary to apply
a coating to the scan object. How
can optimal scanning conditions be
achieved with SCANTIST 3D?
Three-dimensional scanning requires that light emitted by the scanner is reflected from the scan object
back into the sensor of the scanner.
In the case of a transparent or translucent surface, for example, the light
passes through the surface instead
of being reflected from it. As a result,
the scanner is not able to capture the
surface structure.
For this reason, it is often necessary to apply a coating before scanning objects that are transparent,
translucent, reflective, shiny or
highly structured with deep pockets.
SCANTIST 3D forms a thin layer of
white, homogeneous coating which
eliminates reflections and other inhomogeneities and thus provides ideal
conditions for optical scanning.
The handling is extremely simple
and comfortable. SCANTIST 3D is
applied evenly to the surface of the
scan object at a distance of 5 to 10 cm.
5
F ig. 1: Dr Sebastian Gell is a professor of business administration at FH Aachen University of
Applied Sciences in Aachen in Germany. He is also a co-founder of Scanningspray, the
company specialising in surface matting for optical 3D scanning that developed SCANTIST 3D.
(Image: © Sebastian Gell)
The spray cans are equipped with a
special valve with a very fine nozzle.
This makes handling easy and efficient, as the spray is applied with
pinpoint accuracy and precision. The
coating has a layer thickness of about
2 µm and adheres to all materials,
even to very smooth surfaces.
This new scanning spray is free
from titanium dioxide. Why is this
important?
In a scientific opinion issued on
14 September 2017, the Committee
for Risk Assessment of the European
Chemicals Agency proposed the
classification of titanium dioxide as a
Category 2 carcinogen by inhalation.
Based on this opinion, titanium dioxide has now officially received its
carcinogenicity classification according to the EU Classification, Labelling
and Packaging Regulation. The classification as a carcinogen by inhalation
applies to mixtures in powder form
containing 1% or more of titanium
dioxide which is in the form of, or
incorporated in, particles with an
aerodynamic diameter ≤ 10 μm. This
criterion is met by many of the sprays
used for scanning containing titanium dioxide. Based on this drastic
change, I expect that many dental
laboratories will be looking for less
harmful spray alternatives.
Is the product globally available, and
how can technicians order it?
We are currently building our
global reseller network. That is one
of the reasons for us to exhibit at
AEEDC 2022. Dental technicians can
contact their usual sources and dental retailers and make them aware
of SCANTIST 3D.
“SCANTIST 3D eliminates the fundamental
application problems of conventional 3D scan
sprays and thus greatly increases efficiency

SCANTIST 3D is the first evaporating
extra-oral 3D scan spray. Why is
this a crucial advantage for dental
laboratories?
Conventional extra-oral 3D scan
sprays are based on ground white
colour pigments. The disadvantage
is that the applied coating must be
removed again after scanning. The
cleaning process is very tedious,
costly and time-consuming. Unlike
conventional sprays, the coating of

pigments and thus avoids the pigmentcontamination of sensitive areas,
such as laboratories, equipment
and users. You can even apply

Degradation of composite materials

perature), oxidation (loss of electrons),
solvolysis (decomposition by a solvent),
photolysis (decomposition by light)
and radiolysis (decomposition by ionising radiation). Solvolysis, or more
specifically hydrolysis when the solvent is water, is the most investigated and most relevant biochemical
degradation process, as it acts on
the unprotected ester linkages in
methacrylate-based resin monomers,
polymers and coupling agents. By
definition, hydrolysis is a chemical
reaction during which water divides
a molecule into two parts.
The oral cavity is a complex and
aggressive environment that affects
the hard dental tissue and restorative
materials. It contains different substances, such as saliva (water, ions,
enzymes, proteins), plaque (bacteria,
bacterial metabolic products—acids
which decrease the pH value to 4.5),
food and chemical substances (soft
drinks which can decrease the pH
value to below 2, acids from fruits,
toothpastes, mouthrinses, fluoride,
chlorhexidine, bleaching gels containing peroxides, drugs, vitamins),
all of which can contribute to ageing
of materials. Also, mechanical stress
caused by biting (400 N during chewing), forces arising from bruxism and
other oral habits, and forces acting
during toothbrushing can contribute
to material ageing. In addition, chem-
ical or electrochemical factors and
long-term mechanical loads act in the
oral cavity synergistically, accelerating material ageing.1
Ageing is the deterioration of a
material as a result of a reaction with
its environment that becomes more
pronounced over time. If the changes
in material properties are negative,
this can be considered degradation.
Ageing of materials is caused by
internal (chemical, mechanical and
physical) and external (light, temperature, humidity, stress during function,
mechanical solicitations, interactions
with other materials) factors.
The consequences of material
ageing are loss of anatomical shape
(abrasion or fracture) and marginal
fracture, decrease in aesthetic properties, decrease in mechanical resistance and durability, and release of
the material components and their
degradation products in the human
body. Ageing of biomaterials is an
important concern. It often manifests
as a decrease in the normal performance of the biomaterial, physical
degradation and subsequent release
of substances, alteration of properties
(aesthetics, hardening or softening,
alteration of permeability, etc.) and
impairment of functionality.
Resin composites are commonly
used in restorative dentistry. However, these composites degrade in the
oral cavity.2, 3 The processes leading
to the degradation of composites are
thermolysis (decomposition by tem-
Resin composites have high failure rates.4 The main reasons for failure
are secondary caries and fractures of
the restoration.5 Concerns over their
reduced durability and the prevalence of secondary caries have come
to the fore, as well as concerns with
respect to the safety of resin-based
materials that might release chemicals like BPA, TEGDMA, bis-GMA and
HEMA.6, 7 The main problems with
composite resins relate to shrinkage
(hermeticity and adhesion problems),
degradation in function (abrasion,
dissolution and fatigue) and bonding
to hard tissue (efficiency and durability problems).
Shrinkage can be decreased by
masking the effects of contraction
when using the layering technique in
applying the composite resin and/or
by modifying the behaviour of the
composite through its composition,
thus decreasing its polymerisation
shrinkage. The latter has the advantage of reducing shrinkage stress,
thus improving the clinical behaviour of the composite markedly.
One possibility regarding composite composition is to keep the linear dimethacrylates as the basis and
change the nature and proportions
of the other components of the resin
matrix—this is the option employed
by products like els (Saremco Dental).
By controlling the nature and proportions of the components of the resin
matrix very precisely, it is possible to
decrease polymerisation shrinkage
optimally.

COVID-19 advances acceptance of teledentistry among patients
Survey indicates UAE and Saudi Arabian residents ready to embrace digital dental care
© Elnur/Shutterstock.com
n A survey of residents in the UAE
and Saudi Arabia has found that
88% of the respondents appreciate
the advantages of teledentistry and
online communication more now
than they did before the SARS-CoV-2
pandemic. The results of the survey
are part of a wider white paper that
was presented at the second Digital
Health MENA Forum last autumn in
Dubai.
Based on these results, it is clear
that practitioners who use digital platforms for communication with their
patients are more likely to be able to
maintain their operations during the
pandemic and especially lockdowns.
The survey was conducted
among 1,000 participants, half of
whom were based in the UAE and
the other half in Saudi Arabia. They
responded to questions concerning
their sentiments about the future of
telehealth and teledentistry and how
these have been influenced by the
pandemic, Angelo Maura, general
manager for the Middle East and
Africa region at Align Technology,
told Dental Tribune Middle East in an
interview.
Reflecting on the key results, he
said: “We found that patients had
definitely undergone a mind shift by
embracing the new normal of digital
dentistry.” Even though only 32% of
visited a dentist between March and
June 2020, whereas 42% did not
make an appointment owing to concerns about possible risks. Nevertheless, consumer confidence in dentists
remained high, 80% trusting their
dentist to take the necessary precautions to protect patients.
“We […] found that nothing can
replace face-to-face interaction, as direct dentist care is still fundamental
in the industry. And we do believe in
that. However, it will be very important for dental professionals to find a
balance between face-to-face care and
teledentistry in order to give a better
service and better care to patients,”
emphasised Maura.
the respondents used online digital
communication tools to interact with
their dentist during the COVID-19
lockdown, the majority of those who
did (78%) said that they found them
convenient and intended to continue
to use these digital tools for nonemergency care in the future.
Moreover, the study results show
a balance of opinions about the safety
of visiting a dental office during the

Increasing oral health issues in Arab nations
causing significant harm, study finds
Main public health problems related to dental diseases and oral health are dental caries, periodontal disease, tooth loss, oral cancer and dental trauma
According to a review published
by researchers in Saudi Arabia,
countries in the Arab world are ignoring the increasing number of
prevalent oral health problems
their citizens face. There being limited data available to help understand the issues, researchers believe more patient surveys are
needed in order for nations to
make better health policy decisions.
For the review, Dr al-Suwyed
and his team looked at literature
concerning oral health in all
22 Arab countries and published
between 1998 and 2021. Accord-

Speaking to Dental Tribune International, lead author Dr Abdulaziz S. al-Suwyed from the King
Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Saudi Arabia
said, “Oral diseases are often
ignored in public health policy
within the Arab world, despite being a prevalent public health problem exerting a significant and
continuously increasing socioeconomic cost.”
“There is a need for more surveys on the prevalence,
extent, and severity of oral diseases in Arab
populations. These efforts will help practitioners
and policymakers to develop strong dental care
strategies specific to the Arab population.”
ing to the paper, in the Arab world,
the principal public health problems in terms of oral disease and
oral health are dental caries, periodontal disease, tooth loss, oral
cancer and dental trauma, all of
which significantly influence the
general health quality of life of
the populace. However, it is difficult to know the true extent of the
issues with limited data. Only a
few countries in the Arab region,
such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia,
Qatar and Oman, have conducted
dental research, but many Arab
countries, notably Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti and Egypt,
seem not to have as much research data on oral disease, noted
Dr al-Suwyed.
Where to from here?
Speaking about the study’s
implication, Dr al-Suwyed said
that there is poor awareness of
best practices for accomplishing
good oral hygiene, despite oral
disease being among the most
widespread diseases in the Arab
world.
Several factors contribute to
the limited awareness; therefore,
a number of nations are looking
to improve their data collection to
better understand the issues. According to Dr al-Suwyed, countries
such as Saudi Arabia and the
UAE have begun to improve their
current data systems through nationwide population-based studies.
However, if the oral health issues
facing the Arab world are to be
combated, the researchers believe
that “There is a need for more surveys on the prevalence, extent,
and severity of oral diseases in
Arab populations. These efforts
will help practitioners and policymakers to develop strong dental
care strategies specific to the Arab
population.”
The study, titled “The silent
epidemic of common oral diseases
among the Arab population: An
emerging health problem”, was
published online on 27 August
2021 in the Journal of Family
Medicine and Primary Care.

What will be the new normal after COVID-19?
An editorial by Jerko Bozikovic about the challenges and opportunities arising from the pandemic
new habits, but do not be afraid of
creating your own reality in this
VUCA world, by following your intuition, acknowledging the specificities
of your work environment and taking
the steps you feel you need to.
© treety/Shutterstock.com
n For over 18 months, the world has
been challenged in reinventing itself
constantly. Nobody would have imagined ringing in the 2020 new year
that the world would go through
what it has: lockdowns, red zones,
health crises, isolations, reinventing
the workspace and so much more.
Most of us thought that this might be
a temporary situation; however, three
months became six, became 12, became 18, and we are still counting.
While in some areas in the world, life
has gone back to normal, in other areas strong measures are being taken
again and the solutions that were
promised to us by specialists, politicians and the media suddenly have
not given us back the life we are all
longing for. So, in this new, unstable
reality, how can we be the best we
can be?
If we give our authority away, it
is difficult to create the life we want,
we need, we deserve. That authority
can be politicians and scientists but
also patients, colleagues, etc. Be open
to listening, to observing, to analysing, to challenging, integrating the
outside truth with your inner truth.
My experience is that this will take
you where you want to go, will give
you the answers you seek, will give
you the tools to deal with what is
happening around us in this VUCA
world. As I said before, life is not what
happens to us, but how we deal with
it, and honestly, I think we are in for
a longer, more challenging and more
exciting ride than we can foresee.
Take that opportunity to connect with
your inner truth, to connect with the
people around you who matter, to listen to their feedback, and to create
together the best life and work environment you can in these times.
We live in a world of VUCA—
volatility, uncertainty, complexity and
ambiguity—concepts most people do
not like. Therefore, the challenge is
not to try to avoid these—the reality
is that we are living in VUCA—the
challenge is dealing with them.
VUCA concerns all aspects of life,
personal and professional. Each of
these four types of challenges require four distinct types of responses.
It would be interesting to delve
deeper into them for yourself through
a self-examination.
A good exercise to do for yourself
is to write down those four different
challenges in different areas of your
life and assess honestly how they
have affected you and how you dealt
with them. Have you really dealt with
these, or did you hope they would
pass? If you dealt with them, did you
create the desired results? If you did,
what were the outcomes? If you did
not create the desired results, did you
try other ways to create the desired
results? This applies to all areas of
your life: yourself, your partner, your
kids, but also your patients, your
team, your colleagues, your providers
and your professional partners.
I do not believe in the concept of
assessing something as good or bad.
We live in a world ruled by duality:
yes/no, good/bad, young/old, rich/
poor, man/woman, sick/healthy, correct/incorrect, etc. As long as we keep
thinking in this duality, we will fall
into the pitfall of seeing things only
our way. But things are seldom black
or white, yes or no, correct or incor-
results (which was Einstein’s definition of insanity: hoping for different
outcomes doing the same thing), or
you do something different to create
a different outcome.
Is what I am doing efficient?
Is it giving me the desired results?
This approach is for me fundamental in doing the exercise I have
suggested, identifying your reactions
and behaviours in the VUCA world
we live in. What you did in the past
18 months in dealing with a VUCA
world was not good or bad. Rather
ask yourself whether it was efficient
and whether it gave you the desired
results. If yes, wonderful! If no, it is an
opportunity to start looking for other
ways and methodologies. I strongly
encourage you to ask your team to do
the same exercise too, to give you
feedback and different perspectives
of the past 18 months—and that can
only be beneficial for you, your team
and your patients. The same of course
applies to your personal life with
your partner, kids or friends.
If the answer is yes, keep doing it;
however, if the answer is no, then you
have a choice: either you keep doing
the same thing, creating the same
Another impact the past 18 months
might have had on you is that some
measures of safety or hygiene, for
example, were created for a COVID-19
environment. Many might have thought
that this would only be temporary,
but it might be that some of these
procedures are here to stay. This is
the same for some other protocols
for work and for collaboration, communication, delegation, etc. that had
to be installed and developed in this
ever-changing world. Therefore, take
the learned lessons to a next level,
integrating them and making them

rect. There is a whole range in between, creating nuances, and every
situation also depends on the context.
There are two questions I find more
interesting to ask ourselves:

Study: Orthodontists believe COVID-19 could permanently

Researchers conduct questionnaire among orthodontists and orthodontic residents across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar
For the study, the research team

among orthodontists and orthodontic
residents across Saudi Arabia, the
UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar. A total
of 315 responses were recorded—

Over the past two years, the
COVID-19 pandemic has continued
to have an impact on the capacity
of dental professionals to deliver
treatment in the usual way and this
been a challenge to them. Previous

New minimum wage for Saudi dentists from April
Government wants more Saudi nationals working in private dental clinics
n As part of an ongoing shake-up of
its dental industry, the government of
Saudi Arabia has established a minimum wage for dentists working in
private practice. The move is part of
sweeping changes to the kingdom’s
labour laws, aimed at creating stable
job opportunities for citizens of the
western Asian monarchy.

From 11 April, the monthly minimum wage for dentists will be
SAR 7,000 (€1,640). A minimum
wage will also be established for
certain other healthcare areas, including pharmacy, radiography and
physiotherapy. The changes are
part of a broader set of adjustments to Saudi labour laws and are
known as the Nitaqat—or Saudisation—
programme.
will fall under the Nitaqat programme.
Announced in October last year,
the programme aims to reserve 60%
of jobs in private dental clinics for
Saudi nationals in order to create
more jobs for them and to expand
their participation in the labour market. According to Saudi Gazette, the
rejigging of healthcare employment
regulations will create 8,500 jobs for
Saudi nationals.
Dental Tribune International understands that the minimum wage
will not apply to dentists working
in government-run dental settings,
where jobs are typically highly
sought after and well renumerated.
Only dentists who are paid
at least the minimum monthly salary and who have obtained professional accreditation from the Saudi
Commission for Health Specialties
Arab News reported in October
last year that Saudisation had already
led to Saudi nationals holding 30% of
dental jobs. The news agency said in
May 2017 that the Ministry of Human

had stopped recruiting dentists from
abroad to reduce unemployment
among Saudi dental graduates. 7

teeth. Usually, a series of aligners is
needed and each aligner moves the
teeth in increments until the desired
movement has been achieved.
Aligners need to be worn for at
least 20 to 22 hours a day to achieve
the desired maximum effectiveness.
The wear schedule for each set of
aligners depends on the level of compliance of the patient and on his or
her dentition before there is a change
to the next set. The length of treatment with aligners depends upon
the severity of each case.
ClearCorrect is one such clear
aligner system used to straighten teeth
as an alternative to traditional fixed
appliances. ClearCorrect straightens
teeth using a series of clear custommade removable aligners that gradually
move teeth a little at a time, eventually
Aligners are also beneficial for
patients who have had previous orthodontic treatment and who want to
make minor corrections to their smile.
There are several advantages to
using clear aligners:
correcting the teeth and smile for a
new, revitalised look.
Clear aligners have many advantages and are a great aesthetic alternative for patients who want a
straighter smile but do not want to
wear traditional metal brackets. It is,
therefore, a treatment often motivated by patient demand. The clear
aligners provide the comfort level of a
removable appliance while maintaining control over specific tooth movements by means of tooth-coloured attachments placed over the teeth on
which the aligners fit. Aligners are being increasingly utilised in different
kinds of complex cases, and their
efficiency in combination treatments,
two-phase therapies or simple cases
has previously been documented.
Clear aligners are virtually invisible
and designed around convenience.
They are removable; hence it is
easier to brush and floss after
meals.
They are easier to keep clean.
Clear aligners are comfortable
and less likely to irritate gingivae
and cheeks.
They can prevent tooth wear
caused by bruxism.
There are no dietary restrictions
associated with them.
They provide controlled singletooth movement.
There are remote monitoring
options available.
The last point is especially relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orthodontic patients need to return to
the clinic for their routine follow-up
sessions, and this is becoming increasingly difficult. With aligners, owing to
digital planning and advanced technology, the number of visits is greatly
reduced compared with the
number required for fixed appliances, and in some simple
cases, repeat visits can be
avoided entirely. The lack of
need for regular physical
appointments reduces
chair time and effectively reduces in-person
contact during the pandemic. Clinicians provide a series of
aligners to their patients to last for
a defined period before they return
to the practice for evaluation and
additional aligners. Some clinicians
deliver all the aligners up front, and
then they follow treatment progress
using virtual visits online or through
the use of a monitoring system.
ClearCorrect aligners have a
high trim line and therefore have
much better torque control. Aligners
also have much better controlled
movement when it comes to creating
space for implants as well as expansion. Since aligners are an integral
part of digital planning and workflow, they offer solutions for most
minor to major oral malocclusions
and movements such as levelling and
alignment, crossbite, edge-to-edge
bite, overjet, crowding, spacing, open
bite, midline shift and deep bite.
Movements such as rotations
and extrusion and those required for
the correction of large overjets have
been found difficult with clear aligners but they are not impossible when
auxiliaries are used.
Innovation is at the core of
ClearCorrect, which aims as a company to become increasingly customercentric and patient-centric. The latest software developments as well
as new product features, such as bite
ramps and precision cuts, make it
possible for clinicians to expand
the range of treatment indications
within their practices.

RINSING AGAINST SARS-COV-2—ONE MOUTHWASH REDUCES INFECTION RISK
even by patients without symptoms.
Given the strong presence of the
virus in the mouth and its easy
spread through salivary particles,
the concept of a mouthwash that
could prevent infection through
simple rinsing is extremely attractive,
especially for dental professionals.
It is with these facts in mind that
the researchers set out to identify a
formulation that could reduce the
viral load in the mouth.
duces the presence of the COVID-19
virus in the mouth by 71%,” co-author
Prof. Denis Bourgeois explained.
“This significantly reduces the risk
of coronavirus contamination from
saliva.”
Rinsing and gargling with Perio
plus regenerate is an excellent barrier measure against the spread of
SARS-CoV-2. The discovery has interesting implications for fighting the
COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for
future antiviral preventive measures.
Be it for personal or clinical use,
antiviral mouthwashes could play
an important role in reducing the
general risk of contamination.
A novel formulation
n In a study that is the first of its kind,
researchers from Claude Bernard
Lyon 1 University in Lyon in France
have shown that Curaprox’s Perio
plus regenerate mouthwash reduces
the risk of transmitting SARS-CoV-2.
A single rinse with the mouthwash lowers the viral load in the
mouth by 71%, aiding the immune
system in controlling the start of
infection.
Our mouths are central to the
spread of the coronavirus: the virus
has been identified in the saliva of
91.7% of people infected. Moreover,
viral transmission through saliva is
possible from a distance of up to 3 m,
AD
In their search for an effective
antiviral mouthwash, the researchers identified two substances that,
when combined, proved particularly
promising in reducing the SARSCoV-2 oral load: -cyclodextrin and
Citrox. Citrox is a newcomer to oral
health products. The substance is
a mix of organic plant compounds
that have a broad antimicrobial effect without disrupting the mouth’s
natural balance.
A single rinse is sufficient
Half of the 176 COVID-19 patients who took part in the study
rinsed three times daily with Perio
plus regenerate over the course of a
week, and the other half, the control
group, did the same with a placebo.
The researchers found that a single
rinse with the mouthwash had a sig-
nificant effect: the first rinse reduced
the viral load in the mouth by 71%
after only 4 hours. After seven days,
the mouthwash proved to have a
particularly beneficial effect in reducing the viral load in the saliva
of those patients who initially had
a very high viral load.
An important breakthrough
This is the first in vivo study to
demonstrate the effect of a mouth-
wash in inhibiting infection with
the virus that causes COVID-19. The
Curaprox Perio plus mouthwash protects against viral infections and has
protective and regenerative properties, thanks to the hyaluronic acid it
contains. The result is an oral mucosa
that is in optimal health and minimally susceptible to viral infection.

DIGITAL SOLUTIONS LEAD THE WAY INTO THE DENTAL PRACTICE
1
2
Fig. 1: Ceramill DRS. Fig. 2: With the new DRS product series and the AG.Live digital platform, Amann Girrbach takes interdisciplinary collaboration between laboratory and practice to a new level.
With its Ceramill Direct Restoration
Solution (DRS), Amann Girrbach
has extended its integrated digital
workflow to the dentist and thus
closed the communication gap that
existed between the dental practice
and the laboratory. In this process,
both partners contribute their core
competencies in order to provide
patients with definitive and functional prostheses in a more timely
and less complicated way. The delivery of smaller units is possible
on the same day, depending on
the local distance between the two
partners.
Depending on the type of collaboration that is desired, three team
workflows are available in combination with the corresponding Ceramill
DRS Kits. In each case, the central
basis of these workflows is AG.Live,
a new digital platform that provides
the infrastructure and patient case
management procedures to support
a level of consistency and efficiency
that was previously unattainable.
As such, AG.Live takes communication and collaboration between the
practice and the laboratory to an
entirely new level.
Virtual platform AG.Live
creates freedom, more
efficient processes and
greater customer proximity
With AG.Live, Amann Girrbach
has started the largest digitisation
offensive in the company’s history.
This web-based portal for collaboration between laboratories and dentists offers comprehensive digital
services at all levels. For example,
AG.Live is a central tool for digital
case management, networking, infrastructure, material management and
support services. It is also a knowledge database that will gradually
replace the company’s previous
C3 customer portal.
On the one hand, the platform
networks machines and materials
in the laboratory, thereby simplifying processes and increasing
quality and reproducibility. On the
other hand, the greatest advancement is that AG.Live connects the
growing global network of dental
professionals who are operating
digitally. This bridges the interdisciplinary gap between dentists and
dental technicians and facilitates
future-oriented cooperation. Furthermore, within this network of optimised and new partnerships, participants can focus on their strengths
and better position themselves on
the market.
Extending the digital
Ceramill CAD/CAM workflow
to the dentist
The Ceramill DRS Connection Kit
is the basic entry-level option, with
which dentists and laboratories can
already take full advantage of digitisation. It consists of a Ceramill Map
DRS intra-oral scanner, the associated scan software and the connection to AG.Live. Any order data, including all the required information,
can therefore be shared with the laboratory seamlessly and in real time
via AG.Live. This eliminates the need
for handwritten job sheets and conventional impressions. All that is
necessary is the physical delivery of
the restoration to the dental practice,
and this is possible on the same day
in cases of simple restorations. Such
timely delivery can lead to a better
dental experience for the patient
and could ultimately attract new patients to the practice and generate
more orders for the laboratory.
If the preferred material is zirconia,
the High-Speed Zirconia Kit, consisting
of Zolid DRS zirconia and a corresponding Ceramill Therm DRS sintering furnace, can optimally support the laboratory in fabricating straightforward
zirconia restorations on the same day.
In an additional step—which can
provide patients with their prostheses even faster—the system in the
dental practice can be upgraded
at any time with the Ceramill DRS
Production Kit. This allows simple
restorations to be fabricated in the
practice and placed in the patient’s
mouth in a single session.

STRAUMANN TLX BUILDS ON STRAUMANN’S PROUD HISTORY TO PROVIDE IDEAL HIGH PRIMARY STABILITY
Immediacy has become a major
part of implant dentistry today. It affords several benefits for both patient
and practitioner. In addition, it enables exceptional clinical outcomes in
less time than traditional
techniques. However,
to achieve the best
possible results,
clinicians need
the right products and tools.
Straumann
has long been at
the forefront of
cutting-edge solutions
in the field. Each product or service is refined and
optimised. They overcome the challenges dentists face every day.
Where tissue level meets
immediacy
The Straumann TLX is the latest
in a long line of clinically proven im-
20
plant solutions. It is designed to
mimic natural anatomy and respect
the biological distance in all dimensions for ideal soft tissue conditioning and aesthetics. Based on the
tried and tested principles
of the Straumann BLX
implant, the TLX is
manufactured from
Roxolid material
and features an
SLActive surface.
This winning combination preserves
the natural structures, boosts vascularisation, enhances
predictability with immediacy and reduces healing time in a wide range of clinical
scenarios.
Straumann TLX has been designed for optimal primary stability
in all bone classes, and the innovative new implant system supports
AEEDC Dubai 2022 · 1–3 February 2022
conventional placement and loading
procedures for greater flexibility.
It also utilises the same drill set and
TorcFit connection as the BLX implant,
which allows a simplified and more
convenient workflow.
What doctors say about TLX
Dr Abid Faqir: “Every single time
using TLX, I am left amazed and
surprised by the results. I experience
a soft tissue response that I have
never seen before. Following the same
protocols as I always did, instead of
simply achieving good results, we
now have even better outcomes.
The fundamental enhancement is
unbelievable tissue response, and in
challenging areas, the tissue forgiveness is superb. For this reason, I just
can’t stop using it. My full-arch and
single-tooth experience with TLX is
very rewarding, not only for me but
also for our patients. Over the years,
on many occasions with immediacy,
I have wished for a product like TLX.”
Prof. Daniel Buser: “The future in
implant dentistry is with neck designs
combining a smooth surface in the
transmucosal area with a micro-rough
surface inside the bone. As a study by
Derks and Tomasi showed, moving
the micro-gap away from the bone
and having a smooth surface in the
peri-implant sulcus reduces the risk of
peri-implant complications. TLX combines this concept with an innovative
endosteal design,
ensuring optimal
primary stability, and will open a
range of new clinical possibilities.”

VOCO RETRACTION PASTE—A MUST-HAVE FOR EVERY PRACTICE
The basis for a perfect impression is an exposed and dry sulcus.
With VOCO Retraction Paste,
which is applied directly from the
cap into the sulcus, VOCO is introducing a product for the effective
temporary opening of the sulcus
and its isolation from moisture.
This product is also the ideal complement to the V-Posil precision impression material. VOCO Retraction
Paste offers the prerequisites for
successful classic or digital precision impressions as well as for
cavity preparation of Class II or V
restorations, and it can also be used
as preparation for either permanent or
temporary cementing of restorations.
The retraction paste impresses
users not just with its results but
also with its handling. For example,
the shade contrasts well against the
gingiva, facilitating working in areas
hard to see in particular. Owing to
the very slender and slightly flexible
cannula, the material can be easily
dosed and applied, and the paste
is easy to press out. In addition, it
scores points with its excellent flow
a retraction thread. It can be used
either in the classic way or digitally
with an intra-oral scanner. Softtissue management is often the key
to success for the resulting Class II
and V fillings as well as for permanent or temporary cementation of
restorations, especially when using
the adhesive technique with products which are not very moisturetolerant.

eliminating moisture.
Numerous benefits for patients
VOCO Retraction Paste only requires a short exposure time; it has
a neutral taste and can be easily and
fully rinsed off.

THE SECRETS BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF AXIOM
“This bone Level implant type represents the culmination of a technical
consensus: one single internal conical
Morse taper connection with integrated platform switching. We made
an audacious choice of material by
opting for titanium alloy, which offers
much greater resistance,” said Hervé
Richard, Anthogyr’s R & D engineer.
Customer feedback confirmed that the
simplification route was the right one.
The creation of Axiom marks a decisive step in the Anthogyr’s history
and provides a powerful impetus for
innovation. The ongoing success of the
Axiom range shows the relevance of
technical choices aimed at simplifying
implantology and prosthetic solutions.
From the first Axiom REG to the latest
Axiom PX in 6.5 mm, the Axiom range
has been enriched to keep pace with
the changing needs of practitioners.
When launched in 2009, no equivalent to Axiom was available on the
market. The main objective was clear:
to democratise implantology by offering
innovative and easy-to-use solutions.
At that time, systems, protocols and surgical kits were highly complex. Anthogyr
chose to present a practical and reproducible solution with a unique connection, making it possible to answer all
surgical and prosthetic indications.
Thanks to the added value of
Axiom and the industrial expertise
of the manufacturing teams, the success of the Axiom range in France and
in Europe led to further advances.
Alongside the pioneer Axiom REG,
the range was expanded in 2011 with
the addition of the Axiom PX for immediate post-extraction implantation
to improve bone anchorage, followed
by the Axiom 2.8 for single-unit restorations in narrow spaces in the anterior aesthetic area and culminating in
the complete “Concept Axiom” range.
The Axiom tissue level implant
launched in 2017 enhanced the Axiom
story and concept with strong innovative assets such as the Tissue Favored
Design neck profile.
More than ten years after its
launch, Axiom remains the major strategic pillar of Anthogyr. Celebrating
20 years of presence in China last year,
Anthogyr’s expansion to new markets
such as South Korea and Japan will enhance the globalisation of the brand.
Designed for Axiom system,
Anthogyr’s INITIAL guided surgery
solution guides the first drilling to ensure precise positioning of the implant
axis and emergence point. As an integral part of a digital workflow, it provides the precision required for the
realisation of a prosthetic design plan
and helps to reduce invasiveness and
treatment time for patients. The solution enables practitioners to complete
the implant placement quickly and
confidently. The INITIAL guided surgery kit allows all types of surgeries to
be performed, on both healed sites and
immediately post-extraction implant sites.
Compact and ergonomic, it includes a
wide range of instruments. With this
new offer that is compatible with the
main planning software products available on the market, Anthogyr favours
openness.

out irregularities of the cavity floor
and reinforces the bonding layer.
Owing to its elastic properties, the
material is also highly stress absorbing. Its low viscosity ensures good
wetting capability and highly aesthetic results.
After a retention time of 30
to 60 seconds in the oral cavity,
the material takes on an elastic
consistency, which facilitates removal without risking deformation.
The material cures completely
within a further 3 minutes and
can then be polished. This procedure is time-saving and thus highly
economical.

SCANTIST 3D—FIRST VANISHING EXTRA-ORAL 3D SCAN SPRAY
Even when using modern extraoral dental scanners in the laboratory, it is necessary to use matting
sprays in many applications in order
to achieve good contrast values and
precise measurement results. Scan
sprays not only improve the scan
quality but also enable the scanning
of transparent objects, reflective objects or objects having deep pockets.
These include telescopes, brackets
and, most importantly, occlusal and
dental splints. Dental 3D scan sprays
form a matt, white and homogeneous
coating when applied. This reduces
reflections and other inhomogeneities and thus creates excellent scanning conditions.
Conventional extra-oral dental
3D scan sprays contain finely ground
white colour pigments. The pigments
are applied to the object to be scanned
and must be removed from the surface of the object after scanning. The
pigments dispersed during the spraying process also contaminate the entire scanning environment and settle
as white dust all over the scanning
area—on the scanners, on electronic
devices such as PCs, and on other
laboratory and office equipment.
Cleaning is only possible—if at all—
with enormous effort and expense.
Titanium dioxide (TiO2), one of the
pigments used, is also suspected of
causing cancer via the inhalation route.
Scanningspray, a company specialising in surface matting for optical 3D scanning, has developed
SCANTIST 3D, a new 3D scan spray
specifically developed for extra-oral
applications in the dental field. It is
used in dental laboratories as well
as in dental care centres.
After application, SCANTIST 3D
products form a homogeneous and
very fine matting layer on the object,
which, as with other matting sprays,
leads to an improvement in the
optical properties of the objects
to be scanned. At the same time,
all SCANTIST 3D products are free
of TiO2.
The revolutionary feature of the brand product
SCANTIST 3D VANISHING
is that the coating evaporates (sublimates) independently after the scanning process. SCANTIST 3D
VANISHING thus eliminates
the fundamental application problems of dental
3D scan sprays in the
CAD/CAM process, especially problems related to
its use in sensitive areas.
Since the coating evaporates by itself, there is no
need for the otherwise
time-consuming subsequent
cleaning of the scanned
objects and the laboratory environment. This
results in enormous
time and cost savings in

MEDENTIKA: WELL-ENGINEERED PROSTHETICS AND IMPLANTS
Not only have new series been added but
also some changes in life cycle management have been made. Medentika has
made the new ASC Flex available for all
systems. The ASC Flex is an innovative
titanium base which makes it possible to
move the angled screw channel up to a
maximum of 25° and in addition shorten
the 6.5 mm high chimney by 1.0 mm
steps down to 4.5 mm—even when using
a digital workflow. To complete the system, two new variants of this titanium
base have been developed—a nonindexed version for bridges and a version with a second gingival height of
2.5 mm. In addition, Novaloc patrices are
available for the multi-unit abutments.
They are a simple and cost-effective way
to convert a fixed full-arch restoration
into a removable restoration when the
clinical situation requires it.
Medentika is part of the Straumann
Group and is headquartered in Germany. The products are manufactured in a factory located in the south
of Germany in an area renowned for
watchmaking and the automotive
industry. At an affordable price,
Medentika supplies dental laboratories, dental professionals and patients with an attractive system of
precision-engineered implants, multiplatform components and abutments
that are durable and fully compatible
with all major implant systems.
Four Medentika implant systems
cover all indication areas. In addition,
Medentika offers a unique implant
with a 30°-angled implant shoulder especially for full-arch restorations. The
implant is called Quattrocone30 owing
to its special shape. For all implants,
the implant packaging has currently
been adapted to make the identification of the implants during storage
clearer and easier. Implant removal
has also been significantly improved
so that the user can insert the implants
even more safely straight from the
packaging into the patient’s mouth.
Regarding the compatible prosthetic
components, several new implant inter-
faces such as MegaGen, Neoss and WP
from Nobel Biocare have been added to
give our customers even more flexibility
by restoring different implant brands.

CONNECTING DENTAL PROFESSIONALS, TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES UNDER ONE PLATFORM
Pick and choose the best
treatment for your patients
n Imagine a scenario where all
the digital tools you need to complete your cases—treatment planning software, scans and partner
communications—are available from
one platform accessed via a single
login.
Having a digital ecosystem like
3Shape Unite means that you are
no longer tied to one company’s solutions. You can pick and choose the
best treatment for your patients.
And an app-based approach not only
helps to make this possible but also
makes the connection and workflow
so much smoother when choosing
partners.
We have made this possible and
hereby announce the launch of
3Shape Unite, our new open platform included free with every
3Shape TRIOS. It brings worldleading dental companies, solutions
and laboratories together and allows
you to manage all your cases, share
data effortlessly and communicate
with your treatment partners from
one interface and with one login.
Another great benefit of the
Unite platform is that it provides a
directory which enables dental laboratories to become more visible to
dental practices around the world.
On Unite, laboratories can market
their services with a profile which
they themselves create, and they
can take advantage of an optimised
order workflow with practices.
Intuitive interface and easy
access through integration
Fully integrated with the multiple award-winning TRIOS intra-oral
scanner, the Unite platform includes
a simplified laboratory order form
and delivers an intuitive user interface with built-in chat and best-inclass workflow between the dental
clinic and over 1,000 laboratories.
In addition, it integrates with over
50 clear aligner providers and patient management systems and provides easy access to patient images.
Unite makes digital dentistry more
straightforward and accessible than
ever.
With 3Shape Unite, we have
optimised the connections between
you and treatment partners beforehand. The integrations are represented in the Unite platform as apps
in the 3Shape Unite Store. You simply click on an app to establish your
connection.
App-based dentistry
puts new partners
at your fingertips
The app then automatically
takes care of the sharing of relevant
information. Most importantly, the
connected app makes it seamless
for you to send your scans and case
information and for you to communicate with your partners.
The app-based approach also
makes it much simpler for you to
grow both your digital ecosystem
and your practice because you can
just choose new treatment solutions
or partners to connect to. The app
takes care of the rest—all directly
from your 3Shape TRIOS and Unite.
Dentistry leaders have joined
with 3Shape Unite as founding partners to launch the new platform.
3Shape Unite users can access
Henry Schein’s patient management
system and clear aligner brands,
Ivoclar Vivadent’s dental applications
for dentists and dental technicians,
and the Straumann Group’s clear
aligner, implant and prosthetic solutions and services.
3Shape CEO Jakob Just-Bomholt
says about the new platform:
“3Shape Unite brings to life our historic vision of giving dentists freedom and open options. It is digital
dentistry united under one platform.
From labs and treatment solution
partners to managing patient care,
3Shape Unite creates workflows that
just flow.”
Thomas Hedegaard, 3Shape
product director for the Unite platform, says: “3Shape Unite’s open network and app-based approach means
that dentists can choose to work
with any laboratory by simply connecting to them through an app.
This gives dental practices complete
freedom of choice not only of their
laboratory partners but also of
third-party treatment providers.
And because Unite optimises the
connection and communications
ahead of time, you know the partner
you are connecting to is digitally
ready.” 7

INNO DENTAL RELEASES Q.P. FIBER POST PLUS
INNO DENTAL, a Korean manufacturer of glass fibre-based dental
products, aims to become a forerunner in the global dental industry, competing with the world’s top brands.
The company exports its products to
30 countries around the world.
The company has now launched
Q.P. Fiber Post Plus, a new glass fibre
post that is characterised by flexural
strength and an elastic modulus.
The product is successor to INNO
DENTAL’s Q.P. Fiber Post, which was
first released in 2012 and which has
gained popularity worldwide.
The development of the new post
has been based on years of experience, product expertise and data and
technology upgrades as well as on
ongoing in-depth analysis of user requirements. Therefore, Q.P. Fiber Post
Plus is the most advanced fibre post
that has been introduced to the market
over the past decade. In particular,
the updated light penetration provides higher mechanical retention to
the core build-up material. Post position
control within the canal is improved
owing to enhanced radiopacity.
Advantages of
Q.P. Fiber Post Plus
Silane finishing on post surface
creates good bonding strength.
Higher transparency provides
superior aesthetics and light
transmission and is advantageous for dual-cure cementation.
It is anti-corrosive and has
passed various tests, including
a cytotoxicity test, an Ames test,
an acute system toxicity test and
an oral mucosal irritation test,
thus ensuring bioaffinity and
safety.
Atraumatic removal is possible
in minutes.
The tapered apical shape conserves dentine.
Ten different sizes and dedicated drills are available.
The elastic bending strength
similar to that of dentine
helps to protect teeth without
causing root canal fracture.
It has enhanced flexural strength
(> 1,800 MPa).
It has optimal radiopacity (> 330%
AI equivalent).

BOREA SHOWCASES NEW RAYPLICKER VISION SOFTWARE AND BOREA CONNECT PLATFORM
The French company Borea is
presenting its new software suite
Rayplicker Vision and the Borea
Connect platform at AEEDC 2022.
Both innovations introduce several
new features that promise to redefine shade communication, according to the company.
Faced with the digital revolution in the dental field and, in particular, digital integration between
dental offices and laboratories,
Borea is continuing its international
development and aims to become a
leader in the digital colour recording field.
Borea designs, manufactures
and develops the Rayplicker solution from A to Z at its premises in
France. This includes not only the
spectrophotometer and the software
but also the communication platform and the mobile application.
Amid the health crisis and the
travelling restrictions induced by
the COVID-19 pandemic that allowed
very few opportunities to meet its
customers and partners, Borea has
taken the opportunity to exhibit at
AEEDC in order to renew its links
with the dental profession. This occasion will be marked by the release of
new products that will completely
change the way shade information is
communicated in order to fit even
better into a 100% digital workflow.
Borea’s flagship product Rayplicker
is a solution consisting of a digital
shade scanner, dedicated software,
a communication platform, and a
mobile application for processing
and transferring data from the dentist’s office to the dental laboratory.
In a single acquisition, Rayplicker
Handy captures all the shade information necessary for the aesthetic
integration of the ordered prosthesis.
deep analysis of the most relevant
data for the production of dental prostheses, including brightness, chromaticity, hue and translucency. This tool
is complementary to the spectrophotometer and allows for centralised
access to a patient’s aesthetic data,
such as STL files, Rayplicker shade,
and patient images. This software was
developed to facilitate and standardise the digital workflow of practitioners and laboratories.
At each acquisition, the user can
visualise the shade of the tooth in different segmentations: overall shade
analysis, three-part mapping, ninepart mapping, detailed mapping and
translucency mapping of the tooth.
The results are displayed according
to different reference shade guides,
such as VITA Toothguide 3D-MASTER,
VITA classical, VITA classical with
VITA Bleached Shades, Ivoclar Vivadent’s
Chromascop, SHOFU Vintage and
Noritake. Moreover, the device has
a patented optical measuring head
that can eliminate all influences from
the external environment, and its
ergonomics make it possible to scan
up to the premolars.
The data collected with Rayplicker
Handy is sent directly to Rayplicker
Vision, open software for analysing
and archiving the acquisitions obtained with the spectrophotometer.
This software can be installed both in
the dental office and in the laboratory.
It allows for simplified data management by patient or practitioner and
SIMPLICITY WITH ONE HAND—NEODENT EASYGUIDE
The demand for implant therapy
is constantly growing, as are dentists’ needs for practical and efficient solutions that combine greater
treatment acceptance rates with
time-saving, friendlier procedures.
Conventional procedures present
challenges, such as accurate implant positioning, that can be
addressed by guided surgery.
Since guided surgery is seen as
a complex technique by
many clinicians, they
continue to work
with less efficient protocols.
The result is
less peace
of mind, less
patient engagement and
fewer treatments being performed. Neodent
EasyGuide is designed to offer simple
fully guided techniques
enabling predictable surgical
results, efficient treatment protocols
and patient treatment acceptance.
Straightforward guided
surgery technique
Although designed to be more
accurate and safer, guided surgery
can be complex, mainly owing to the
multiple instruments and accessories required. In this scenario, it is
almost mandatory to perform the
28
surgery with assistance. Neodent
EasyGuide offers a straightforward
guided surgery technique with onehand procedures, featuring special
drills having a unique design, combined with the versatility of the
Helix GM implant, bringing peace of
mind to guided implant placements.
Predictable surgical results
Implant position and angulation
affect aesthetics and function, and consequently
have a considerable
effect on patient
satisfaction.
Surgery presents some
challenges,
such as the
risk of removing too
much soft tissue, compromising the natural
look of the emergence profile, or damaging anatomical elements.
Neodent EasyGuide instruments transfer
the accuracy from planning to surgery,
while preserving tissues and structures. They are designed to achieve
better final restorative outcomes, with
more aesthetic and functional rehabilitations and greater patient satisfaction.
Efficient treatment protocols
Conventional procedures can
be inefficient before and during

Borea’s main objective is to facilitate and fluidify the transmission of
aesthetic data between the practice
and the laboratory in the same way
that intra-oral scanners are doing for
dimensional data. All this is with the
aim of improving communication between the dentist and the dental
technician so that their work is simplified and has a constant focus on

surgery. Unplanned interventions
usually take longer, interfering with
the clinic’s schedule and the patients’
quality of life. Also, instruments
which are hard to identify increase
the chance of errors, reducing practicality of use and speed of surgery.
Allied to immediacy, Neodent EasyGuide provides more efficient protocols and workflows even before the
procedure, including data acquisition and even the drilling sequence
reflected on the surgical tray.
A considerable number of patients who need implant therapy
do not even consider this option
for many reasons. Those who do
consider it prefer to be involved
and make decisions for themselves.
To make better decisions, it is important to be well informed, otherwise
the outcome could be frustrating.
Once the patient’s folder is completed and recorded, the production
order is placed and sent through the
Borea Connect platform. The laboratory, also registered to the platform,
instantly receives all necessary information in order to realise a prosthesis faithful to the order. All this can
be done from any computing device.

Made of semolina dough soaked in

UAE. It is best served hot right out of
the pan with the cheese still stringy.
Many variations of kanafeh exist, depending on the region, and the same
