What? “Laser in dental aesthetic: Innovation in clinical use based upon scientific evidence. Clinical cases” Who? Prof. Aldo Brugnera Jr, Brazil When? 6 February, 15:30–17:15 Where? WFLD 2020 Dubai Congress, Hall D The objective of this lecture is to demonstrate innovative uses of lasers in aesthetic dentistry. Prof. Aldo Brugnera will present the new tips of the third-generation Er:YAG laser, which have the capacity to remove caries with the minimally invasive modes for dentine and enamel, and can be used for veneer debonding, soft-tissue plastic surgery and the treatment of periimplantitis, as well as for a new technique to close black triangles with laser therapy. 2 This presentation will report a non-surgical treatment option for the recovery of the interdental papilla using an innovative technique called haemo-laser therapy (HLT) that stimulates papillary growth to permanently fill black triangles.1 Loss of gingival tissue, besides affecting the aesthetics of the smile, provokes phonetic and functional damage. Interproximal tissue reconstruction using surgical procedures has been reported in the literature in the form of subepithelial connective tissue AEEDC Dubai 2020 · 5 & 6 February 2020 An in vitro preliminary study was carried out to demonstrate what occurs at the cellular level in HLT clinical cases associated with photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) using a 660 nm diode laser. This study demonstrated that the blood clot originating from the bleeding provoked in the gingival area is rich in mesenchymal stem cells. PBMT enables preservation, viability and further differentiation, stimulating the return of gingival stem cells, which would support their survival and differentiation in the blood clot, thus favouring interdental papilla regeneration. The presenter will show similar clinical results with the Er:YAG for HLT using a special tip in gentle mode for treatment to close black triangles. In conclusion, this new clinical application for lasers in dentistry has shown excellent results. ABOUT THE LECTURER Prof. Aldo Brugnera is considered a key opinion leader in the field of laser ards. […] As always, we have endeavoured to cover the mainstream trending topics of the year 2020 in all the related facets of dental oral care, from surgery to restorative to dental hygiene and dental assistance and we certainly hope to keep all participants busy with ten conference halls allocated for the transfer of worldclass dental education. Moreover, the conference features the presence of 167 speakers who offer their insights on the most crucial topics in dentistry and also includes 173 scientific sessions, 18 hands-on workshop courses and 210 poster presentations focusing on the latest advances in dentistry.” This year’s edition will host another session of AEEDC Dubai Stars. This feature, which was launched in 2019, includes a number of panel discussions in which key figures, dentistry. As the author of five books, a contributing author to various chapters in other publications and the author of over 150 scientific papers on the topic, as well as a senior editor of Photobiomodulation, Photomedicine, and Laser Surgery, he has established himself in the community and has delivered over 200 lectures all over the world. He is the president of the South American Division of the World Federation for Laser Dentistry. FURTHER READING Morford et al. designed a study to systematically investigate the efficacy of an Er:YAG laser for veneer debonding, possibly without damage to the underlying tooth and preservation of the veneer integrity.2 While the veneer materials did not show any characteristic water absorption bands in the Fouriertransform infrared, the bonding cement showed a broad H2O/OH absorption band. The veneers transmitted between 11.5 per cent and 43.7 per cent of the incident Er:YAG energy; IPS e.max Press HT transmitted twice the energy that IPS Empress Esthetic did at comparable thicknesses. celebrities and influencers from the dental industry will participate and share their views and stories. Another highlight of the varied programme is the AEEDC Student Competition, during which students in their last academic years will engage with their peers from other dental schools in a face-to-face competition. The main goal is to interact, exchange knowledge and expand horizons on various topics in dentistry. Competing students will be challenged in a dental quiz on a range of subjects, including infection control, implantology and oral surgery. According to Shibli, 2018, sterilisation and cleaning/decontamination of dental implant surfaces utilising highand low-intensity laser therapy with the Er:YAG laser have also been performed.3 Laser irradiation not only removes the inflammatory soft tissue present around the peri-implant pocket, but also detoxifies the implant surface without damaging or altering the titanium surface or dental implant morphology, allowing a better stabilisation of the blood clot with or without the addition of bone grafting materials during guided bone regeneration. Adult consumers prefer lingual brackets and clear aligners over traditional fixed appliances, according to a cross-sectional survey conducted by researchers at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The study of the perceptions of adult laypersons in Saudi Arabia found that consumers were willing to pay more for these more aesthetically pleasing treatments when it came to their own orthodontic care but not for the orthodontic care of their children. In the survey, 199 Saudi adults (55 per cent of whom were female) were asked to evaluate images of adults wearing a variety of orthodontic appliances. Participants were shown images of different appliances and asked to rate them on attractiveness, acceptability of having them placed on both themselves and their children, order of preference, and economic value. The appliances pictured were metal brackets with either colourless or coloured o-ties, self-ligating metal brackets, hybrid half-metal and half-ceramic brackets, ceramic AD brackets, self-ligating ceramic brackets, shaped brackets, and clear aligner trays. Lingual brackets were shown by pictures of subjects who had no visible appliances, together with an inside view of the mouth. Participants in the study rated clear aligners and lingual brackets as the most attractive of the treatment options. Coloured o-tied brackets and shaped brackets were rated as the least attractive. A clear majority (86.9 per cent) said that clear aligners were the most acceptable of the pictured appliances for placing on themselves, and that clear aligners were also the preferred treatment option for the participants’ children (84.9 per cent). The least acceptable for placement were shaped brackets: only 24.1 per cent of participants rated these as the most acceptable option to have placed for their own treatment, and only 36.2 per cent rated them as the most acceptable option to have placed on their children. I P A SH NG THE FUTURE OF ORAL H E A LT H The least acceptable of the appliances were coloured o-tied brackets, at 4 per cent. When it came to cost, which the authors identified as a factor in participants’ responses, the majority said they were willing to pay more for orthodontic treatment using the aesthetically preferred clear aligners and lingual brackets, but that they were not willing to pay more to have these appliances placed on their children. In discussing the findings, the authors wrote: “Our findings showed that our participants were willing to pay more to have aesthetically pleasing, least visible appliances placed for them rather than the standard metal braces.” They speculated that this willingness to pay could indicate the participants’ perception of the impact of orthodontic appliances on aesthetic appearance and possibly how they are perceived in social situations. Shanghai China NATIONAL EXHIBITION AND CONVENTION CENTER 1–4 September 2020 www.world-dental-congress.org ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE 25 March 2020 EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION DEADLINE 31 May 2020 FDIWorldDentalCongress fdi_wdc They added that participants’ unwillingness to pay more for what they had identified as the more aesthetically pleasing treatment option for their children was perhaps due to a perceived lower level of judgement being placed on children by themselves and their peers. “[The results] may mean that parents perceive that it is not necessary for their children to have the most aesthetically pleasing appliance. Parents may feel that their children will not suffer from negative self-perception or judgement in social situations as it is perhaps more common to see children wearing visible braces than adults,” the authors wrote. The study, titled “Adult perceptions of different orthodontic appliances”, was published online on 13 December 2019 in Patient Preference and Adherence. © REDPIXEL.PL/Shutterstock.com news[7] => news The success of World Oral Health Day in Lebanon An interview with IADS Prophylaxis Officer Julien Issa. By FDI World Dental Federation. Using the FDI-provided materials for World Oral Health Day really helped us to stand out and have amazing social media posts to compete with other associations for the World Oral Health Day Awards. For the 2019 campaign, I recreated Toothie! I made Toothie to get kids excited about their oral health. Although in 2019, we didn’t only focus on kids: we also focused on pregnant women. We ran a workshop, teaching If you say “World Oral Health Day” to my colleagues at university, they say “Julien”. It is so valuable for us to have an on-the-ground perspective of World Oral Health Day. How did you engage with your local community? How did you organise yourselves? The second time that LADS participated in World Oral Health Day activities was in 2018. A small group of us made a big effort to attract them about how to take extra care of their oral health during pregnancy. We also did specific outreach activities for elderly people and people with special needs. And we tried to cover all of Lebanon as much as possible, from the south to the east. We visited schools, community centres and even a refugee camp. brushing and flossing; we also focused on the importance of maintaining overall health, for example through regular exercise and eating healthy food. The 2020 campaign centres on a worldwide pledge campaign to “Unite for Mouth Health”. What do you think dental students should pledge in 2020? I will tell you what I think as a dental student and as a prophylaxis geek! As the IADS prophylaxis officer, I pledge to spread awareness about oral health as much as I can. Why is World Oral Health Day important to you? World Oral Health Day should not only be important to me; it should be important to all dental students. As dental students, we cannot practise dentistry outside of our university clinics, so we need to find other ways To inspire his patients to look after their oral health is one of Issa’s main motivations. Julien Issa is a Lebanese dental student and the newly elected prophylaxis officer of the International Association of Dental Students (IADS). Wanting to harmonise his passion for science and art, Issa decided to embark on a career in dentistry. Through his studies and formative experiences at university, Issa has developed a steadfast commitment to preventive oral healthcare. He has also become the go-to World Oral Health Day enthusiast in his community. FDI sat down with Issa to learn about his role in the success of the Lebanese Association of Dental Students’ World Oral Health Day celebrations over the past two years. From dressing up as FDI’s oral health mascot, Toothie (yes, really!), and distributing toothbrushes far and wide, Issa shares his experiences and reflects on his goals for the 2020 “Unite for Mouth Health” campaign. Mr Issa, could you please tell us a little bit about your background and how you became involved in IADS? Before becoming the IADS prophylaxis officer, I was an active member of my local association, the Lebanese Association of Dental Students (LADS). I was a member for several years and prophylaxis was my main interest. World Oral Health Day activities were my number one priority (and still are today!). So, I built upon my enthusiasm for prophylaxis as a member, and then I was elected the national prophylaxis officer. In that role, I worked mainly on the LADSorganised 2018 World Oral Health Day campaign. This year, I was elected the prophylaxis officer of IADS. LADS won the World Oral Health Day Award for Best Social Media Campaign in 2018. What was your role in this achievement? I was responsible for social media during the 2018 campaign. In 2018, I was one of the co-leaders organising World Oral Health Day for LADS. I was also the LADS social media officer, so I worked together with the LADS prophylaxis officer at that time to make everything perfect. This is how Issa and his team celebrated World Oral Health Day in 2019. (Images: © Julien Issa/FDI) volunteers from our local association to participate, which, as you know, is difficult, as we have a lot of exams and things to do as dental students. It was a challenge for us, but we made it. How did you choose the places where you targeted your activities? The first thing we did was to read the member toolkit on the World Oral Health Day website. There were some points in the toolkit that really inspired us. For example, FDI suggested collaborating with other health professionals, so we reached out to a local medical association that was organising their own event. We asked to spread awareness about oral health. World Oral Health Day is a great way to do this. I believe that prevention is better than treatment. Let’s prevent before we treat caries or any other oral health problem. What are your goals as this year’s IADS prophylaxis officer? I will do my best to motivate other student dental associations to As a dental student, I pledge to motivate my patients, my colleagues and everyone I meet to take care of their oral health. them if we could contribute an oral health element, and they agreed! Toothie is the FDI’s mascot for World Oral Health Day and an important part of the campaign. We also distributed World Oral Health Day posters in Arabic so that people could have instructions at home on how to brush and floss daily. And we didn’t focus only on participate in World Oral Health Day with the goal of increasing the number of associations participating. I will support them, together with the entire prophylaxis team. We want to support our member associations to do and give more for World Oral Health Day 2020! Augmentation of an insufficient bone volume is indicated before or in conjunction with implant placement to gain long-term functioning and an aesthetic outcome. Autogenous bone block grafting is the accepted standard of care. These tissue transplants, however, have limited availability and require an additional procedure, posing the risk of morbidities. A variety of bone substitute materials, such as allogeneic or xenogeneic materials, are available for ridge augmentation, but the risk of disease transmission needs to be considered. In modern implant dentistry or maxillofacial surgery, priority should be given to those interventions that are The ideal bone substitutes should have biocompatibility, excellent osteoconductive properties and appropriate strength, and they should be able to form a suitable shape easily and to replace the bone completely within a short period. Calcium phosphatebased materials have been considered for use as bone graft substitutes in the treatment of bone defects for over 30 years, in orthopaedic, dental and maxillofacial surgery. In the last several years, the application of digital technology in dentistry has become widespread, and considerable progress has been made in the development of CAD/CAM techniques. More recently, attempts have been made to fabricate custom-made scaffolds, allowing bone grafts to be tailored for specific applications or even for individual patients, using computerassisted methods. The same concepts are applied to produce dental or maxillofacial implants by direct laser metal forming, an additive manufacturing procedure. It is a time-saving procedure in which a high-power laser beam is directed on to a metal powder bed and fuses particles according to a programme in a CAD file. Apposition of subsequent layers gives shape to a 3D form that requires minimal postprocessing. It is now possible to fabricate dental, maxillofacial and orthopaedic implants directly from CAD models. SCHÜTZ DENTAL OFFERS COMPLETE DIGITAL WORKFLOW Tizian Blanks— with certified quality for excellent reliability The range of CAD/CAM blanks comprises over 15 different materials, including tooth-coloured PMMA blocks, pre-coloured zirconium dioxide, cobalt– chromium, titanium and highly translucent zirconium dioxide. All Tizian CAD/CAM blanks, pritidenta blanks and blanks for various splint concepts (Clearsplint, polycarbonate) are subject to strict and ISO-certified quality controls, offering dentists and dental technicians a high level of reliability with regard to milling results. Tizian— CAD/CAM system with great potential for success Left: Tizian Smart-Scan Plus: an intelligent system for precise results—also ideal for large bridges and implant work. Right: Tactile Renishaw DS10 scanner: tactile scanning for an outstanding fit. Digitalisation is complex and varied, and the road to becoming a digital company is long—but essential—for a future in dental technology. Both commercial and practice laboratories must determine their own strategy and decide which digital components they are going to use. The most important prerequisite is an open CAD/CAM system that can process incoming data and integrate data records from complementary diagnostic procedures. Schütz Dental supports customers on their chosen path and helps them shape their digital world in line with their requirements. As a customer- and solution- oriented system provider, Schütz Dental offers the complete digital workflow with all system components. This is presented in three steps below and is being showcased at AEEDC 2020. Precision when it truly matters When using a tactile scanner, individual stumps are scanned by the tactile system and merged into a single digital unit by the CAD software. The result is a fast scan with impressive precision. Users benefit from telescopic restorations with the perfect fit, outstanding precision, AD and reliable, reproducible results— everything you need to offer optimum patient care. High-end design in real time To construct the restoration in the CAD software (Tizian Creativ RT), the dental technician imports not only the digitised impression data but also the data from the IMPLA 3D implant navigation, DICOM data, tactile scan data and zebris measuring data. The dentist uses the zebris jaw measuring system to analyse the patient’s jaw movements and jaw relation. The Real Movement software upgrade furthermore makes it possible to record actual jaw movements as well as the true position of the maxilla in both analogue and digital format through the use of a digital facebow and the appropriate transfer table. This procedure is based on the patented coupling tray, which is used to transfer real-life data to the digital world—in a process-optimised manner. After all, dental technicians can easily work without a model by simply using the Tizian Creativ RT CAD software to match the data. The future-oriented CAD software offers users a great deal of creativity, with the aim of producing a high-end design. The ability to work quickly is ensured by the automatic selection of the essential parameters for a restoration. However, dental technicians still have the option of using virtual tools to customise automatically generated restorations. Once the individual patient data has been imported into the Tizian CAM software, the restoration is milled in the desired CAD/CAM material. been tripled to offer even greater precision for dental restorations. The machine’s revolutionary milling technology enables it to mill all key dental materials, including zirconium dioxide, cobalt–chromium and high-performance acrylics like PEEK. A larger, more sensitive user tablet enables enhanced machine control. Attention has also been paid to the cleanliness of the machine, which offers significant time-savings thanks to a new extraction concept and water cooling system. The machine is ideal for dental technicians who are CAD/CAM enthusiasts and have high standards with regard to milling precision. The digital path chosen by dentists and dental technicians is decisive. The range of individual Tizian components makes it possible to identify, replace and gradually add to individual subprocesses from analogue dental practices. Schütz Dental supports laboratories as they migrate to dental technology 4.0 and helps them find digital solutions to meet their specific requirements. In summary, the innovative Tizian system fulfils the wishes of digitally oriented dentists and dental technicians. It is an open CAD/CAM system that can easily be expanded and offers a high level of reliability in relation to CAD/CAM-based restorations—for teeth with a future that make patients smile. It provides dentists in more than 100 countries with a completely new experience of taking digital impressions. The feedback after the first months in practice shows that Primescan was able to meet and even exceed the high expectations of demanding users. With Primescan, Dentsply Sirona presented the latest generation of intra-oral scanners at the beginning of February 2019 in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. It enables users to take a digital impression with very high accuracy. This has been substantiated by a study at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. Since the launch of this new intra-oral scanner, users in more than 100 countries have been using Primescan in their practices and reporting on their experiences. For dentist Dr Carlos Repullo from Seville in Spain, the perfect end result for the patient has top priority. For several years now, he has relied on the support of digital procedures such as CAD/CAM. From his point of view, the technology of intra-oral scanners has developed enormously—this is especially true for Primescan. “The accuracy of the scan is remarkable. This also applies to the whole jaw scan, which can be taken in a very short time. This is exactly the quality that we need in practices. The handling must be simple, fast and safe, the function must be stable. The new intra-oral scanner offers all this. Primescan does have a small ‘disadvantage’: if the restoration does Find out more Digital impressions made with Primescan: simple, fast and very accurate. (Image: © Dentsply Sirona) not fit now, I can no longer blame the technology.” Primescan meets high-quality standards For quite some time, Dr Mike Skramstad, a dentist from Orono, Minnesota, in the US, has been observing the development of intraoral scanners in the dental market. For a long time, no system was able to fully meet his high requirements in terms of accuracy, user-friendliness, speed, integration capability and possible applications. He took a close look at Primescan in his practice, and a year after the new intraoral scanner’s launch, he is now more than satisfied. He said: “With the introduction of Dentsply Sirona’s Primescan, things have changed considerably. Scanning is very easy and more accurate than with the CEREC Omnicam. What impresses me most about Primescan is the outstanding software performance, which has been further enhanced by artificial intelligence. I’m excited about the many dental applications that allow me to work with Primescan.” Dr Verena Freier, a dentist from Bad Soden in Germany, sees an improvement in the accuracy of Primescan, especially for whole jaw scans. “With the new intra-oral scanner Primescan, which also works with CEREC, I am bringing the treatment of my patients to a very high level. If the results were really good before, for me they are now even better. And everything is easy and relaxed—I don’t really want to put the scanner out of my hand anymore. I particularly like the operation via a touch surface. Since patient satisfaction is very important to me, I am especially pleased that patients ask specifically for this impression method and talk about it once they have experienced it themselves.” Primescan improves workflow with dental laboratories In addition to accurate and fast digital impression taking, another advantage of Primescan is that it is designed for different digital work- flows—in practice with CEREC as well as in collaboration with the dental laboratory or other partners. Using the new Connect software, a digital 3D model can be transferred directly to the laboratory of choice for further processing. Frankie Acosta, a dental technician from Murrieta, California, in the US, is particularly pleased with the optimised processes and the high quality of the impression. He stated: “As a dental laboratory that has been working with digital impressions for around ten years, we are delighted that it is now even easier for dentists to take impressions with an intraoral scanner. The accuracy with which Primescan works convinces us in our daily work. This also enables us to deliver work at a high level. The automatic download from the Inbox of the Connect Case Center is a real time saver.” “With Primescan, we are providing our customers with a technology that decisively improves digital impression taking in many points,” said Dr Alexander Völcker, Group Vice President of CAD/CAM and orthodontics at Dentsply Sirona. “With a completely new technology, the high-frequency contrast analysis, Primescan enables our customers to achieve very high accuracy in every digital impression. This offers possibilities for using it in many indications. The positive feedback from users all over the world encourages us to drive the development in this area.” Dentsply Sirona, USA www.dentsplysirona.com Booth 8 C01–8 D01 AD AEEDC 2020 04.- 06. 02. 2020 Dubai/ UAE Booth: 7F17 Self-curing calcium hydroxide paste system Light-curing nano-ceram composite • Nano-reinforced ceramic particles • Special resin matrix • Significantly less free monomers • Highly esthetic • Universal for all cavity classes • Comfortable handling, easy modellation • Also available as a flowable version • For indirect pulp capping and linings under dental filling materials • Sufficient working-time and a short setting time in the mouth • Contains 26% calcium hydroxide • Recovering of the pulp - Preservation of vitalit • Bacteriostatic and antimicrobic due to a high pH-value • Highly radiopaque for a good diagnostic control Glass ionomer filling material • Variable mixing time for adjustment of consistency • Modulation is possible right after insertion • Perfect marginal adaption • High compressive strength and abrasion resistance • Easy activation without the need of an activator • Perfect for smaller cavities and difficult to reach areas Visit www.promedica.de to see all our products 16 AEEDC Dubai 2020 · 5 & 6 February 2020 Dental Material GmbH 24537 Neumünster / Germany Tel. +49 43 21 / 5 41 73 Fax +49 43 21 / 5 19 08 eMail info@promedica.de Internet www.promedica.de[17] => business SUCCESS CD FOR TEMPORARY CROWN AND BRIDGE MATERIAL Success CD is a self-curing, coldpolymerising paste–paste system for the fast and easy chairside production of temporary crowns, bridges, inlays and onlays. People’s desire for a whiter smile is pushing hundreds of palliative products on to the market. Most of them only provide some surface stain removal—often damaging teeth and gingivae with aggressive abrasives—or an illusionary white effect by dehydrating the enamel or masking yellowish teeth with optical effects. While only hydrogen peroxide-based treatments are capable of delivering true bleaching of intrinsic stains, dental professionals have not yet managed to break into this market, and—even in leading markets such as the US—they are getting a very small slice of the huge tooth whitening business pie. Why? Two words: uncomfortable and expensive. A very long time in office seats, weeks of home tray use, sensitivity during and after the treatment, limiting diets, and high costs have kept most potential consumers from approaching the dental office for a whiter smile. Council Directive 2011/84/EU represents the most protective consumer regulation on dental bleaching, limiting hydrogen peroxide concentrations, making this type of product available only through dental professionals and requiring a preliminary visit. In line with this legislation, BlancOne proposes, for the first time, an effective line of in-office tooth whitening treatments that combine the safety of low percentages of hydrogen peroxide, the immediacy of the result, the absence of side effects and the affordable prices sought by patients. Are you looking for a way to attract new patients to your practice? Do you want to retain them and create a recursive mechanism that brings them back to your practice regularly? Do you want to meet the expectations of your patients who strive for whiter teeth and a more beautiful smile after the dental hygiene session? Would you like to make the hygiene session more profitable within just ten more minutes? If you answered yes to any of these questions, BlancOne CLICK might be the right post-hygiene session tooth whitening treatment for you and your needs. BlancOne’s innovative photochemical technology splits low concentration peroxide (16 % carbamide peroxide) into highly reactive and effective atomic oxygen in just ten minutes, without the need to apply gingival protection and without resulting in any sensitivity. As it provides a typical shade improvement of three to five shades, your patients will immediately discover a whiter and brighter smile right after any session, without having to book another appointment. It is very easy to offer BlancOne CLICK—for a very small additional charge—after dental hygiene sessions, delivering great added value and providing an easy step into a tooth whitening experience for all patients. BlancOne CLICK can be repeated regularly and will improve patient compliance with scheduled visits to the office. Furthermore, it is perfect as a marketing tool to attract new patients with promotions. BlancOne CLICK is the “missing link” tooth whitening treatment, the perfect entry level to home custom tray systems or inoffice power bleaching. In our experience, Perio Plus+ Forte was extremely effective after surgical procedures, and we observed no side effects or postsurgical wound infection at all. In general, the wound healing was perfect for all patients, and the team felt that all surgical wounds had healed very well and nicely without complications—I would even say better than with purely chlorhexidinebased products. Dr Milan Stojanovic with his wife Alma. Dr Stojanovic was one of the first dental professionals to treat patients with CURAPROX Perio Plus+. (Image: © Milan Stojanovic) Dr Milan Stojanovic studied dentistry at the University of Bern in Switzerland, and has run a typical family dental practice in the Swiss town of Niederbipp since 1996. In the last decade, he has also been lecturing future dental assistants, teaching orthodontics and aesthetic dentistry master’s classes, and educating practitioners worldwide on aligner systems. In this interview, he shares his experiences of treating patients with 18 the new CURAPROX Perio Plus+ antiseptic range. Dr Stojanovic, which Perio Plus+ samples did you use in the recent trial? We were lucky to be able to use the samples for 15 long-time patients. We prescribed Perio Plus+ Protect and Focus to three patients with fixed prosthetic restorations, and Perio Plus+ Forte after surgical procedures such as implant placement and third AEEDC Dubai 2020 · 5 & 6 February 2020 Do you have a specific protocol for mouthwash treatment? We had a certain treatment protocol with our previous product, depending on the case and patient. This protocol can be even better achieved with Perio Plus+. Briefly, we prescribe Perio Plus+ Balance to patients without complications after surgery, as a daily supplement to oral hygiene. Patients with resurgent periodontitis are prescribed daily use of Perio Plus+ Protect with Perio Plus+ Support toothpaste for the inflamed areas. Patients with periodontitis are given Perio Plus+ Forte in combination with Perio Plus+ Support, with strict recall intervals of course. After surgical procedures, I give patients Perio Plus+ Forte for two to three weeks, then change to Perio Plus+ Protect, and if the patient shows optimal oral hygiene, I switch to Perio Plus+ Balance. With implants, I additionally prescribe Perio Plus+ Support. Lastly, I prescribe Perio Plus+ Protect when complementary oral hygiene is needed during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances. How does Perio Plus+ differ from other chlorhexidine mouthwashes? For patients, Perio Plus+’s taste definitely makes the difference. I have also tasted Perio Plus+ personally and find it very pleasant, and without major side effects such as burning or taste changes. In the long term, Curaden’s intention is to move towards a situation where dental professionals switch to a lower dosage of chlorhexidine more quickly and complement it with CITROX. Yes, I welcome an approach that allows switching to lower doses of chlorhexidine more quickly. Higher doses of chlorhexidine frequently lead to side effects such as discoloration and taste changes, or patients breaking off the therapy. The addition of natural antiseptics is advantageous, and in my opinion, it definitely promotes wound healing. Also, brushing at the beginning of wound healing is limited, so adding CITROX can definitely reduce the pathogenic microbial film on the wound. Made of semolina dough soaked in a sugar-based syrup, kanafeh is typically layered with cheese. This sweet and savoury combination, together with its crunchiness, gives it a unique taste, which is why the pastry has become a favourite among locals in the UAE. It is best served hot right out of the pan with the cheese still stringy. Many variations of kanafeh exist, depending on the region, and the same applies to the spelling of the name of the dessert.
