Kicking off Wednesday morning, June 9, with presentations on the evolution of sedation, Botox therapeutic indications, the do’s and don’ts of porcelain laminate veneers, principles of surgical extraction and more, this year’s annual meeting, AGD2021, is being held in person from June 9 to 12 at the Austin Convention Center. A smaller, virtual component for those who feel more comfortable that way is also being conducted at the same time. The virtual meeting includes a pre-packaged selection of six lectures, including hard-to-find C.E. that will provide attendees with an educational experience and ability to earn 18 credits. About 3,000 dental professionals see AGD2021, page 3 8 Attendees gather around an AGD sign greeting visitors to the exhibit hall on the first day of the AGD2019 annual scientific session, held at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. This year, AGD2021 is taking place in Austin, Texas, and also online. (Photo/today Staff file photo) 5 Can’t make it to Austin? The Convocation Ceremony will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center, Level 4, Ballrooms D-G. Because of the COVID19 pandemic, capacity is limited, but the event will be livestreamed for those watching at home. The fellowship and mastership awards and the LLSR designation are AGD’s highest honors. The fellowship award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest quality of dental care by remaining current in their profession. To receive this honor, dentists must complete 500 hours of continuing dental education, pass a comprehensive exam and fulfill three years of continuous membership in the AGD. For AGD’s mastership award, dentists must earn their fellowship award and complete an additional 1,100 hours of continuing dental education. Dentists who have earned fellowship or mastership from AGD make up a distinct group — they represent less than 1 percent of all general dentists practicing in the United States and Canada. The LLSR award is formal recognition for AGD masters in the areas of continuing education, dental-related community service and service to organized dentistry. The prestigious AGD2021 from page 1 7 are expected to attend the in-person or virtual meeting. Attendees at the on-site meeting in Austin can expect a variety of advanced hands-on education along with clinical and practice management discussions in an innovative one-hour lecture format. All of the continuing education earned at an AGD meeting can be applied to the AGD fellowship and mastership awards. AGD2021 also includes a keynote speaker session, 20-minute Dental Pearl lectures, an exhibit hall with more than 100 exhibitors, scientific e-poster presentations, a complimentary oral cancer screening and the president’s welcome reception on Thursday, June 10. You can watch the 2021 Convocation Ceremony for the 2021 AGD fellows, masters and LLSR recipients via livestream from the Austin Convention Center. (Photo/freeimages.com) 5 LLSR award symbolizes a member’s dedication to remaining current in dentistry and giving back to his or her community. At the age of 19, Burrows was a college wide receiver at Florida State University and a top-ranked kickboxing black belt champion. This all changed when, as a passenger in a friend’s car, he was in a automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down and diagnosed a quadriplegic. Despite having his promising athletic career cut short, Burrows did not let this event define his life. After half a year of physical therapy and battling life-threatening complications, Burrows returned to college and graduated with a bach- Watch the ceremony The 2021 Convocation Ceremony will be livestreamed starting at 4:30 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday, June 12, at this link: https://vimeo.com/event/1034978/ embed/87bbe7b7db. He also began competing with other worldclass disabled athletes in full-contact wheelchair rugby, a Paralympic sport also known as Murderball. At the height of his career, Burrows was involved in another severe automobile accident that forced him to re-evaluate, re-invent and re-ignite his life. It was at this time he walked away from a successful career in order to share his unique story with the world. At AGD2021, Burrows will speak on the concepts of vision, mindset and grit to life while inspiring attendees to create a mindset of hopefulness and growth of their own. With the conversion to a new 50 ml cartridge system, there is now another highlight. The quality of the products remains unchanged, but the impression process is now even more economical and safer, according to the company. The traditional 50 ml cartridge has long been established in the dental sector for applying impression material and is the modern standard in almost every dental practice. However, this does not mean that its design cannot be further improved. With this in mind, since April 16, Kettenbach Dental is converting all impression materials dispensed from the 50 ml cartridge to an innovative and even more efficient system as part of its product optimization, the company asserts. For users of the 50 ml cartridge materials in the Futar ® (bite registration), Panasil® and Identium® (precision impression) as well as Silginat® (anatomic impression) product families, this means that taking impressions will become even more cost effective and safer, according to the company, with the same high product quality because nothing will change with the material itself. Impression taking made easy High viscosity and medium viscosity 5 (Photo/Provided by Kettenbach Dental) impression materials will be applied using a blue mixing tip (previously green). Low viscosity materials will be applied with a red mixing tip (previously yellow). Thanks to the new mixing system and its corresponding short blue mixing tips, up to 20 percent less residue remains in the mixing tip compared to the previous application: This means more impressions per cartridge and therefore greater cost effectiveness. Despite the shorter mixing tip, the required clinical length and comfort while working are assured, according to Kettenbach Dental. “Bleeding” the cartridge impression material before application is no longer necessary, thus enabling direct application after To learn more You can find more information about Kettenbach Dental’s new 50 ml cartridge system and impression products by calling (877) 532-2123, visiting www.kettenbach-dental.us or stopping by the booth at the AGD2021 meeting. attaching the mixing tip, resulting in less waste and more product. Intuitive handling Even without special training, intuitive and safe use of the new cartridge system is guaranteed at all times, according to the company. Thanks to the integrated positioning aid, attaching the mixing tip to the cartridge is noticeably easier. The color-coding system is already familiar to practitioners and helps to have the right components quickly at hand even in hectic moments. All impression materials in the new application system can be used with all conventional dispensing guns and continue to support simplicity of chairside application. The tamper-evident closure ensures the product is an intact original. Kettenbach Dental impression products are still 100 percent made in Germany and unchanged, retaining their unique and high-quality contents, the company asserts. Combined with the future system-related advantages, this is, as usual, simply intelligent.
