On the agenda: the
annual conference,
a new blog and videos
S
eptember is Dental Implant
Awareness Month, sponsored
by the American Academy of
Implant Dentistry (AAID). This
month emphasizes the need to educate
the public about the life-changing benefits of dental implants and connect them
to a search tool to find a credentialed
dental implant expert in their area.
Dental implants help more than 3 million U.S. residents live life to the fullest,
so people must be educated, given the
proper resources and understand the
full benefits of receiving the best care
and tooth replacement options. Myths
and wrongful stereotypes about dental
implants restrict the life-changing opportunities dental implant surgery presents and cause stigmas deterring people
from receiving care.

“After decades of successful use, I’m
still surprised by how much misinformation or a lack of actual information
circulates about dental implants,” said
AAID President Dr. Brian J. Jackson, DDS,
FFAID, DABOI/ID, in his new blog Stick to
the Facts About Dental Implants.
Jackson joined his colleagues and other
AAID-certified implantologists at the
2022 Annual Conference in Dallas, from
Sept. 21 to 24 to share best practices, solutions to complex cases and emerging
technologies.

Dec. 31.
All the Main Podium sessions as well as
All-Star lectures, a new feature this year
that consists of 13 additional 90-minute

Growing numbers of women entering the profession
AAID-credentialed
women dentists reflect
on their career choice
According to the American Dental
Association, women make up a recordbreaking 56 percent of incoming dental
students, almost tripling the percentage
who were first-year students in the ’80s.
Three female dental leaders who have
several decades of experience between
them are AAID-credentialed dental implant experts Janice Wang, DDS, DABOI,
Jasmine Sung, DDS, DABOI, and Polly Michaels, DMD, DABOI.
Sung believes recognizing and replacing teeth with dental implants is imperative to improving the quality of life of
her patients. “My patients have become
like family. They need to be comfortable
with their procedures, so I strive to provide the highest quality care with integrity,” she said.
After six years as a hospital-based dentist, Michaels started her own practice in
2010. She believes her experience with
medically compromised patients allows
her to complete complex surgeries with a
more predictable, long-term outcome in
implants and prosthetics.
“Any existing issues are magnified in a
medically complex patient, so it is of utmost importance that the care I provide
is customized for each patient’s success,”
she said.
Wang describes AAID’s program as the
“best and safest practices in dental implantology — protecting the general public and providing dentists with extensive
education and levels of credentials.” With
19 years of experience in implantology,
from extractions and bone grafts to implant placements and restorations, she
has found that “implants are usually the
only logical, comfortable and conservative solution” for clients with missing or
failing teeth.
Sung, Michaels and Wang have found
great satisfaction in using their dental implant-focused training to change
the lives of those needing replacement
