Many associations are returning to live gatherings after having events canceled last year. Whether the upcoming meetings are being held in person or online, or a combination of both, here’s a roundup of what’s happening this fall: AAOMS: In-person and online The 103rd AAOMS Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition will take place Sept. 29 through Oct. 2 (Wednesday through Saturday), both in-person and online. The theme of the meeting, being held in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CAOMS), is “Ensuring Our Future Through Wellness and Diversity.” Most educational sessions and the exhibition will take place at Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn. The headquarters hotel — the Omni Nashville Hotel — will host the keynote lecture, opening ceremony, awards presentation and meeting dedication, welcome reception and select educational sessions and social functions. AAOMS said that the safety of meeting attendees is the top priority. It is “strongly encouraged” that meeting attendees be fully vaccinated, and those who are not fully vaccinated should wear a mask in indoor public places. AAOMS is contracting with a COVID-19 safe event services team of health professionals to ensure the safety of meeting attendees by offering vaccine verification, temperature screenings, rapid antigen tests and frequent disinfection of high-touch surfaces. Exact event and session locations are listed at AAOMS.org, in the Annual Meeting Final Program and on the annual meeting mobile app (available later this summer). AAID speakers Sonia Leziy, DDS, and Brahm Miller, DDS, speak on ‘Technology and Surgical Innovations’ at a Main Podium session during the 2019 AAID annual meeting, the last time the event was held in person. This fall, implant meetings will be held both in-person and virtually. Photo/Implant Tribune File Photo ACP: Online only AAP: In-person AAID: In-person and online The 2021 Annual Session of the American College of Prosthodontists will take place virtually, from Oct. 26 to 30 (Tuesday to Saturday). According to organizers, the ACP meeting is the premier event in prosthodontics, where hundreds of prosthodontists, specialty residents, dental students, dental technicians, general dentists, other specialists and industry partners gather to exchange knowledge, resources, strategies, solutions and more. This year’s virtual meeting still has all the best parts of an in-person annual session, including world-class education and interactive social events, minus the expense of travel and lodging, meeting organizers said. All the scientific sessions, social events, workshops and corporate symposia will be happening through a new virtual platform. Attendees will have access to social activities, the Sponsor Gallery, Demo Vault and designated networking opportunities. All scientific sessions, corporate symposia and workshops will be available on-demand after they occur. Details are at www.prosthodontics. org/continuing-education/2021-annualsession/. The American Academy of Periodontology Meeting will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla., from Nov. 4 to 7 (Thursday to Sunday). The event offers attendees the opportunity to learn, share and network with the best and the brightest in the field of periodontology, meeting organizers said. The AAP is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the utmost safety of all meeting attendees. Participants will be required to wear a face mask, covering both nose and mouth, at all times while participating in events and sessions, and the program schedule and content is subject to change. Meeting highlights include 22 C.E. credits available in various formats, such as cases studies, point-counter point, symposiums, lectures and hands-on workshops; a Speaker Studio featuring live, one-on-one Q&A with seasoned experts in a casual setting; a special periosystemic general session honoring the late Dr. Robert J. Genco; and hundreds of dental products and services in the exhibit hall. Complete and up-to-date information is available at am2021.perio.org. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry Meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago from Nov. 10 to 13 (Wednesday to Saturday). The theme of the meeting, “Pursuing Implant Competency,” will focus on four key elements: mentoring transformations, navigating complications, global perspectives and clinical innovations. For 70 years, the AAID has gathered talented and strong-minded individuals to collaborate, educate and elevate one another’s practices to optimize patient care. “But creating a safe environment is our key concern, which is why our annual conference will include a virtual option,” meeting organizers said in an online announcement. The AAID is monitoring the situation and diligently following the safety guidelines put in place by the venue, the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois. The event could potentially include social distancing/reduced capacities, masking, daily temperature checks and/or proof of vaccination.
