The entire nomination process can be completed online. Established in 2008, the award recognizes California dentists for their individual lifetime of volunteer commitment and leadership. The foun- dation will consider nominees who exemplify certain humanitarian ideals and attributes and who serve as an inspiration to the dental profession. Specifically, nominees must: • Contribute significantly to the alleviation of human suffering and improve the quality of life and oral health of individuals served. • Show a lifetime’s commitment to humanity and selflessness in regard to direct personal or organizational gain or profit. • Establish a legacy that is of ongoing value and benefit to others. • Demonstrate the highest level of compassion, respect, integrity and professionalism when caring for patients and their families while being sensitive to religious, cultural and ethnic differences. • Meet additional eligibility criteria outlined in the nomination guidelines. Nominators can submit their nominations online and will need to include supporting documents with the nomination, including a resume that highlights the nominee’s qualifications and contributions and a letter of support signed by an individual who is not the nominator. The foundation will also review up to three pages of other documentation, such as testimonials, news articles and narratives, that help to present the nominee’s character and achievements. see AWARD, page 5 8[2] => [3] => from page one CDA Presents — May 13–16, 2021 About the Publisher Tribune America, LLC 118-35 Queens Blvd., Ste. 400 Forest Hills, N.Y. 11375 Phone: (212) 244-7181 E-mail: info@dental-tribune.com www.dental-tribune.com Publisher & Chairman Torsten Oemus t.oemus@dental-tribune.com President/Chief Executive Officer Eric Seid e.seid@dental-tribune.com Group Editor Kristine Colker k.colker@dental-tribune.com Managing Editor Fred Michmershuizen f.michmershuizen@dental-tribune. com Product/Account Manager Humberto Estrada h.estrada@dental-tribune.com Product/Account Manager Maria Kaiser m.kaiser@dental-tribune.com Client Relations Coordinator Leerol Colquhoun l.colquhoun@dental-tribune.com Accounting Department Nirmala Singh n.singh@dental-tribune.com Published by Tribune America © 2021 Tribune America, LLC All rights reserved. today CDA Presents The Art and Science of Dentistry Show Daily Vol. 13 appears during the CDA Presents virtual meeting from May 13–16, 2021. The Maggies have recognized excellence in the publishing and digital media industries for nearly seven decades and are judged by industry peers and publishing executives. The CDA journal’s Maggie Award was one of just 32 awarded for 2020 publications. Articles in the October 2020 issue of the Journal of the California Dental Association discussed the roles of hygiene and periodontal health in respiratory complications, differentiating medical and dental aerosols, barriers to accessing care globally and evaluating masks and air-purifying respirators. The issue, which also provided teledentistry guidance and back-to-practice resources, was designed to not only update contemporary readers but to serve as an CDA PRESENTS from page 1 7 for dentists and their entire teams. You can check out the schedule, see a list of speakers and register for the meeting at www.cda.org/Home/Newsand-Events/CDA-Presents/Attendees. Want to attend two classes that are being held at the same time? No need to worry. Many courses will be available on-demand starting Monday, May 18. These courses are included with your CDA Presents registration fee, and you’ll have access to them through June 15. Of course, with four days full of courses, it can be hard to know where to look first. Topics to be discussed include stress busting with humor, minimally invasive caries management, dentistry’s response to the pandemic, sleep disorder breathing, periodontal disease, looking at your practice from a patient perspective, dealing with medical emergencies in the office, managing esthetic dilemmas, advantages of digital dentistry, infection control, building relationships between dentists and hygientists, and much more. There are also a group of courses developed by CDA’s Practice Support and Public Affairs teams. These sessions will offer guidance and tips on employment practices, patient communication and dental benefit 5 (Photo/Alissa Eckert, MSMI, and Dan Higgins, MAMS) archive for future researchers. “We know that in 18 months, five years or a decade from now the information we have gathered, processed and built on will be astounding. With the conversion to a new 50 ml cartridge system, there is now another highlight. The quality of the products remains unchanged, but the impression process is now even more economical and safer, according to the company. The traditional 50 ml cartridge has long been established in the dental sector for applying impression material and is the modern standard in almost every dental practice. However, this does not mean that its design cannot be further improved. With this in mind, since April 16, Kettenbach Dental is converting all impression materials dispensed from the 50 ml cartridge to an innovative and even more efficient system as part of its product optimization, the company asserts. For users of the 50 ml cartridge materials in the Futar ® (bite registration), Panasil® and Identium® (precision impression) as well as Silginat® (anatomic impression) product families, this means that taking impressions will become even more cost effective and safer, according to the company, with the same high product quality because nothing will change with the material itself. Impression taking made easy High viscosity and medium viscosity AWARD from page 1 7 2021 award honors Soderstrom The 2021 award will be given in honor of Dr. Andrew Soderstrom, CDA past president and CDA Cares co-founder, who died in April 2020 in Modesto, where he’d owned and operated a private pediatric dental practice since 1985. Soderstrom received the foundation’s Humanitarian Award in 2015. He held dozens of leadership positions in dentistry and several teaching 5 (Photo/Provided by Kettenbach Dental) impression materials will be applied using a blue mixing tip (previously green). Low viscosity materials will be applied with a red mixing tip (previously yellow). Thanks to the new mixing system and its corresponding short blue mixing tips, up to 20 percent less residue remains in the mixing tip compared to the previous application: this means more impressions per cartridge and therefore greater cost effectiveness. Despite the shorter mixing tip, the required clinical length and comfort while working are assured, according to Kettenbach Dental. “Bleeding” the cartridge impression material before application is no longer necessary, thus enabling direct application after attaching the mixing tip, resulting in Nominate a dentist Nominate a California dentist for the 2021 Humanitarian Award at www.cda.org/Home/About/CDA-Foun dation/Grants-Awards/HumanitarianAward. Intuitive handling Even without special training, intuitive and safe use of the new cartridge system is guaranteed at all times, according to the company. Thanks to the integrated positioning aid, attaching the mixing tip to the cartridge is of ADA’s Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention in 2017. He also held positions with state and local associations, such as the California Society of Pediatric Dentists and the California and Stanislaus Dental Society. In 2012, following observation of a Mission of Mercy clinic in Oregon, Soderstrom was instrumental in launching CDA Cares, the CDA Foundation’s volunteer-run dental clinic that provides no-cost dental care to underserved communities. noticeably easier. The color-coding system is already familiar to practitioners and helps to have the right components quickly at hand even in hectic moments. All impression materials in the new application system can be used with all conventional dispensing guns and continue to support simplicity of chairside application. The tamper-evident closure ensures the product is an intact original. Kettenbach Dental impression products are still 100 percent made in Germany and unchanged, retaining their unique and high-quality contents, the company asserts. Combined with the future system-related advantages, this is, as usual, simply intelligent. Soderstrom received numerous honors and awards, including the Pierre Fauchard Award in 1982-83 for outstanding leadership in dentistry, and he was in his eighth year providing oral health care at La Clinica Dental Clinic at Children’s Hospital in Oakland at the time of his death. Ariane Terlet, DDS, chief dental officer at the clinic, said Soderstrom was “deeply committed to the community and access to care.” (Source: CDA)[6] => ) [page_count] => 6 [pdf_ping_data] => Array ( [page_count] => 6 [format] => PDF [width] => 765 [height] => 972 [colorspace] => COLORSPACE_UNDEFINED ) [linked_companies] => Array ( [ids] => Array ( ) ) [cover_url] => [cover_three] => [cover] => [toc] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [title] => News & Exhibitiors [page] => 1 ) ) [toc_html] =>[toc_titles] =>Table of contentsNews & Exhibitiors
